Out of all the decades thats what you hear the most: Grocery stores, parties, restaurants, malls etc
It was the last decade that baby boomers and Gen X'ers were largely on board with current pop. The great rock/rhythmic schism began in the '90s and the boomers fled in droves to gold-based or country radio, taking with them those Gen X'ers who couldn't get into either hip-hop or grunge. As such, the decade is currently a consensus musical decade for 45+ folks, who do a lot of shopping and dining out.

Some stores do Sirius XM of the 80s or the 90's or 2000's. Some stores/businesses that used to do the Blend do that since they don't like the Blend's new direction and would have rather put on the blend that did a mix of today's music and yesterday's music. Plus, I don't think they like that the music is a lot softer on that station now.

My eye doctor has Mosaic in the waiting room. I'm guessing that's like the old Blend, or at least what people who don't like the Blend actually want.

Seems like KKJO out of St. Joe, Mo plays a lot more songs than any KC area pop stations. There are some songs that seem "tried and true" alongside some songs I haven't thought of for a while like Alejandro by Lady Gaga, which I think wouldn't touch the KC airwaves, so unsure the differing methods.
I heard Alejandro on some KC stations when it came out.

When radio professionals are on this board saying that it's wrong to play the songs that define classic hits and have consistently been the clear top by far favorites of 18-65 year olds in every market... yeah, we can see why terrestrial radio over here is losing listening faster than the stations in the UK and Australia.
To question Don't stop believing just because of some personal silly ego issues is freaking hilarious!

Which songs are you talking about? Every generation has it's own list of songs that define classic hits.

But hey, if you have a documented study that shows me that 18-65s all love the same songs, I'd love to see it.

No station can, does and wants to try to appeal to 18 to 65: in a competitive. Environment, more era specific or music style specific formats will take away that broad target in more limited and specific segments.

And if specific songs test or not is a listener consensus opinion, no usually a PD, MD or management decision.

It's called Mediabase and you can see that there are about 30-35 of these special songs.
Obviously not every person 100% love them but their consistent scores year after year in every market that are in a special tier with scores much higher and that consistency makes testing them all the time a waste. The challenge is finding your right mix of secondary songs, especially some of the newer ones that are now aging into the core demos, as you are seeing with En Vogue, Enrique, BSB etc for CBS Fm. Problem is that many of those, 98+ are also gold classics that chr and Hot AC need to prop up a currently weak currents cycle. And so you are hearing them up and down your radio dial.

Yeah, avoid those special ones because they bring way too much cume, and oh no, don't want that. 😂

Yep early 2000s. I mean mostly 80s and 90s. Some brand themselves as 70s 80s and 90s though they focus more on the 80s and 90s and still have a small amount of early 2K songs in there particularly the IHeartMedia stations.
