Entercom cross-promotes (and ridicules) sister stations

OK, so when you tune to WEEI for Red Sox baseball you hear the "Mike" announcer guy saying, "There's a new player on the roster. 93.7 Mike FM. Mike has more hits than anyone in the lineup." A "Mike" promo on WRKO says "Mike has all the songs you'd like to download...if you actually had time ...to...download."

Now I'm hearing promos on WMKK, Mike 93.7, saying "when you want the latest news and a chance to talk about it tune to AM 680, WRKO. We play everything.
They SAY everything." OK, not surprising--yet another example of a sister
station promoting the other sister station. Curiously though I hear some
"slams" of WEEI on WRKO; one recorded promo aired during Howie's show
says "no batting averages here", etc., and another had "callers" to a generic
sports station saying things like "I love the Celtics"; "I wanna talk
about Pedro" and so on. "This is a no jock-sniffer zone!," says the annnoucer.

Sure, they could be poking fun at WWZN but in a way
they might be kinda slamming their own sister station a bit? Oh well.

Mike needs to play nice because its the "new guy"...but RKO and EEI can bash all they'd like. EEI is hot...RKO is not, but they have time on their side. EEI made fun of Mike when it first came out.

I like the fact that a company can poke fun at themselves. Either way it is to their benefit. If one station loses listenership for another Entercom station, does Entercom really lose? Hell...its another way to get their name out there.

Last 12 + ratings for 680 looked good.

Yes. So maybe the "making fun of sports radio, even our
sister station" is beneficial to E-com after all.

I heard that too on Blute and Scotto this am and it left me shaking my head. Even if it was aimed at WWZN, most listeners would definitely equate it with WEEI. Amusing promo but, knowing who owns what, it's a bit baffling.

I think its geared more towards people who don't want sports talk all day long. I think those people are not gonna listen to EEI anyway. I wouldn't concider it bashing. Even if it was, nothing wrong with some playful teasing back and forth.
