Audacy Finally Files to Move KDWN and KXST to KXNT Site

They got less than 2 months to get something back on the air even with an STA
If there is progress in returning to the air, an STA con be extended, right?

Carl T. Jones Consultants and the proofing of three radio stations won't be cheap.
Compared to the total billion dollar and more bankruptcy, this is pocket change to protect an asset.

This is a new development! I really thought Audacy was willing to let the two AM stations die. Moving to another site, even at reduced power, was not really reported as an option.
Wrong. Moving is always an option.
KDWN's FM translator, now fed by KMXB-HD3, continues to run the conservative talk shows and brokered shows on 101.5 MHz. KXST didn't have an FM translator, so its Sports Betting (BetQL) and CBS Sports Radio programming simply disappeared from Las Vegas airwaves.
Wrong. K268CS was never associated with KDWN. When Beasley had it, it was associated with KKLZ.
Sports /Betting programming has been on KLUC-HD2 for years now.
Since KDWN and KXST are just going to piggyback on the tower currently used by co-owned 840 KXST, I wonder why this is taking so long?
Damn it's so easy! Just hook it up no problem!
Why don't you show up with a shovel, help dig trenches and silver solder copper ground strap?

The translator that KDWN is on is K268CS 101.5. KXST is on KLUC-HD3. I would think Las Vegas could use a sports betting station.
Nick, you would think, but you don't. Just stop thinking, because every thought you post on this site is wrong. You can change your username, but it doesn't make your takes any less trash.

KDWN is not on K268CS. KMXB-HD3 is. Just so happens it's the same programming. The only translators that are stuck on AM licenses are the incentive auction translators.

KXST is not on KLUC-HD3. The BetQL network and LA Padres baseball are on KLUC-HD2.

A word of advice. Please don't make assumptions about stations or the human beings responsible for their operation. There are some very smart and talented individuals working in this industry to put food on the family table. They are working toward a goal under limitations. Thank you.

Chapter 11 probably put a nail in them.

Audacy License, LLC (AL) "AL’s request is granted. Accordingly, Special Temporary Authority is granted to permit Station KDWN(AM) to remain silent until March 2, 2024. Notwithstanding the grant of this Special Temporary Authority, the broadcast license for Station KDWN(AM) will automatically expire as a matter of law if broadcast operations do not resume by 12:01 a.m., March 3, 2024.1"

Read the regulations:

§ 73.1740 Minimum operating schedule.
(c) The license of any broadcasting station that fails to transmit broadcast signals for any consecutive 12-month period expires as a matter of law at the end of that period, notwithstanding any provision, term, or condition of the license to the contrary.

It’s been silent for a year. Many station resume operations for one day, then go silent again.
FCC is going after those "one day" operators and either giving them a short term renewal with the condition they operate continuously, or they hold a hearing to determine if the licensee has served the public, if not pull the license.

But if they show construction on their new site, they can get multiple extensions. There was a station in CA that had been in a flood plain, and had the site destroyed. The government-owned proprietors would not let them back, and zoning in Coastal CA kept them from getting permits for a variety of proposed sites. The FCC saw the documents and continued to grant extensions.

There are several stations in Puerto Rico still off the air from the 2017 hurricane and they have gotten extensions based on the slow rebuild of roads, power lines and other services plus the lack of acceptable land that would be "floodproof" in the event of future storms. It seems that several have used "global warming " as an explanation for not being able to find a "safe" location for a new transmitter site.

I think they would have filed before the STA ran out.
Been through several Chapter 11's and projects like that get put on hold and scrapped first thing.
Court looks at ROA very closely.

Are you referring to the station on 630 in Monterey? Your description sounds very familiar.
