107.9 WOLD-LP flips from Oldies to Soft AC

Class D's have little protection. I live smack dab in the middle of where the two signals will be and I couldn't tell you the last time I've received WCNM. 103.9 previously had WUEY-LP licensed to New Brunswick from the same tower WOLD-LP will be on from 2015-17 so it's already happened too.

The upside is Class D non commercial education FM stations (not translators) dont have to maintain public files... hallelujah!

During the many decades when in-person viewable "Public Files" were the requirement, I only saw one occasion when anyone asked to see them. And in that case, it was a couple of college students on a Broadcast Law course assignment.

In 2009 when WHTG flipped to CHR, a bunch of people protested. Some decided to harass the station by repeatedly asking to inspect the public file for weeks, and wrote nasty letters to put in the public file.

I think there was similar outrage when it went from FM 106.3 to G Rock, about a decade before?

I think there was some grumbling, but no protests when they went from FM 106.3 to G106.3 (more Modern AC-Alt hybrid than pure Alt at first) in 2000. They didn't become a more pure-Alt until early 2005 when they started simulcasting on 98.5 and re-launched as "G-Rock Radio"

Shawn Newman is playing chess with his transmitters:

WOLD-LP ("Sunny 107.9") is moving from 107.9 Woodbridge to 103.9 Somerset
107.9 W300CZ is moving from "Ewansville" (actually East Brunswick) to Perth Amboy, after a failed attempt to move to 106.3 and become W292GG (scrapped due to interference complaint from WKMK)
95.1 W236CT ("Oldies 95.1 WOLD" -- but not the real WOLD) is moving from Edison to Woodbridge

Shawn has absolutely nothing to do with W300CZ. It is simply rebroadcasting his programming until Best Media's end result is achieved.

The deal originally was he acquired W236CT in exchange for turning-in the WOLD-LP license so that W300CZ could hop to One World Trade Center on 107.9, but they were beaten to the punch by another translator. He held up his end of the deal and received the W236CT license. Now both WOLD-LP and W236CT are moving to the New Brunswick tower where 92.7 W224CW is currently located so W300CZ can inch closer north until Best Media figures out its next move.

Best Media is led by Deepak Viswanath of Plano TX, who used to own a South Asian LPTV in Edison back in the 90s. It also has a phantom translator in Baltimore (which has a CP to relocate to TV Hill with a VERY directional pattern) and a 100w non-com east of Houston. They lost their translator in Roosvelt, NJ last year after Press Communications proved it was not operating. Again, nothing to do with Shawn despite your continued comments to the contrary for years.

W300CZ needs to go away regardless of who owns it and whose programming is on it. It's a nuisance that serves no purpose other than causing interference. They picked a fight with WKMK and lost, and are now trying to use a tightly directional pattern to squeeze in right next to the other translator that beat them to 107.9 in Manhattan.

There is nothing illegal about W300CZ's operation in its current location. There are no primary stations that it is impeding on their 45dBu translator interference contour. WPPZ-FM's 45 ends in Lawrenceville, WEBE barely gets into Bergen County, WKRF doesn't get beyond Hunterdon County.

It is a nuisance to who? Would I like to be able to DX on 107.9 like I could in the 1990s when I could null out WEBE to get WKRF clear in Middlesex County? Sure, but we're 0.00000001% of the audience doing that.

Yep. Its moved a bunch of times, but COL never changed. Classix 107.9 is a local in this area anyway.

COL's for translators don't need to change, they have no city of license coverage requirements.

Nothing really comes in, in the area where this translator is transmitting. WEBE changed locations from Bridgeport to where Star 99.9 is transmitting. I used to get an almost listenable signal while driving in Nutley, but before the NYC translator signed on, it was weak and mixing with WCFT from Dover, NJ, what I believe would likely be received otherwise in the Perth Amboy area. WEBE to me isn't any different from 106.7 in terms of playlist.
