Josh Binswanger Gone from WBZ

Swell. Haven’t heard Nicole Davis this week (maybe Monday only?); Tina Gao had her slot till this morning (Thursday), when Tina had Deb Lawlor’s shift, and Charlie Sherman (!) is anchoring the midday half-hour position. I think Charlie is better suited to sports - on weekends - than news; just my opinion.

And what’s happening with Adam Kaufman? Bryan Antonelli, who is quite good, has been doing sports for over a week now. I do wish AM drive sports were live and delivered previous night’s scores, rather rhan these pre-recorded fluff “in-depth” pieces we’ve been getting.

Charlie Sherman should not be a news anchor

Watching him on (now ex-) WBIN-TV 18 would have convinced most anyone (that Charlie Sherman should not be a news anchor).....!

Gee, I thought it was just me who thought this way. Full disclosure: I've never watched WBIN-TV.

Yet iHeart shows Josh Binswanger and Bill Marcus and Garo Hagopian the door?

Maybe they shouldn't have whacked whomever it was whose responsibilities included making sure they didn't run 2 day old weather forecasts. I Heart Happens.

Since my original reply was lost when RD timed me out, I'll keep this brief: I've not heard 2-day-old weather forecasts on WBZ. I did hear them on WRKO, Talk 1200, and the now-defunct 1110 WCCM (Salem, NH), all of whom use weather from iHeart's Total Traffic and News. Which is part of the reason I wish iHeart would maintain the long association between WBZ and AccuWeather.

iHeart shouldn't have happened to WBZ.

Midnight yesterday.

Shoulda', woulda', coulda.....Why waste energy on things you cannot control?

Personally, I think WBZ is a much stronger news station since the iHeart takeover.

IMHO, WBZ is much worse under iHeart’s ownership. News staff and producers let go and no one hired as replacements, most half hour segments now are either WBZ-TV reports or network reports, many of the sports reports are no longer live, etc.

And I have to wonder how much longer the overnight live talk shows will last. Morgan & Bradley must be looking over their shoulders every time they come to work.

Seems to me all changes in staffing and work rules have to be approved by AFTRA.

Seems I hear Karen Regal live all of the place on that station. (almost TOO much! LOL!)

One plus is that they eliminated the CBS-TV audio broadcast at 6:30 (and 7:30?) Thank Gawd!...and are doing more local/live new in that position.

For all the naysayers, who thought the opposite, they have strengthened their position and now have embraced that they are always live and always local (almost always.)

Seems like CBS was neglecting their stations for the previous 8-9 years...when they found they didn't really want to be in radio anymore.

Has WBZ rerun any of Guy Mainella's "Calling All Sports" shows?

Oh, I hope they do. Fourteen-year-old me might actually be one of the callers, proposing ridiculous Red Sox trades or trying to get him to talk about wrestling!

Maybe they could dig up some of Robin Young's 1974-75 1-5 a.m. Sunday shows, with the eclectic playlists and the occasional odd story. Who knew she'd still be on the radio 45 years later?

My take is when Dan Mason left, the end was near. It's interesting to see all of the changes to the other former CBS news stations, with new imaging and presentation at KCBS, KYW, and WCBS. I suspect a lot of those changes would have happened at WBZ too.

I think you hit upon something, BigA; to wit, a lot of the changes at WCBS, KYW, KCBS, etc. also would have happened at WBZ, and that's the point: WBZ is no longer a part of that "family". Of all the former CBS O&O news/talk stations, WBZ was not - perhaps could not be - invited to stay. They are now with iHeart who, i'm sure, is very successful with its music stations, but a news/talker, save, perhaps, KFBK, is a different animal for them. I, of course, do not know either Dan Mason or Greg Strassel, but I understand these two were "rock stars" to the CBS Radio stations. Those days are gone now.
