No, WSM has carried NASCAR racing in the (distant?) past. Keep in mind that NASCAR used to be a major feature on Gaylord's TNN in the 90s, so that company had significant history with the sport.
A radio outlet for the area was certainly needed, since the only audible play-by-play that a person in the stands can hear during the event is one pumped into your headphones.
This could be a good revenue and audience generator. Use to be a "blue collar Southern thing" but they have become more geographically diversified in the last 20 years. Some of the sponsorships have come from "internet" companies which are not considered "blue collar" like Earth Water sold by Amazon*. Here is NASCAR's official list:
