WLS Chicago To Air NASCAR Cup Series Beginning in 2023

Is this the first time a 50KW clear-channel AM has ever aired MRN or PRN NASCAR racing? 50KW FMs, of course, in Midwest and southern states, but a big AM?

No, WSM has carried NASCAR racing in the (distant?) past. Keep in mind that NASCAR used to be a major feature on Gaylord's TNN in the 90s, so that company had significant history with the sport.

A radio outlet for the area was certainly needed, since the only audible play-by-play that a person in the stands can hear during the event is one pumped into your headphones.

People are really passionate about NASCAR. Rockford's affiliate WLUV is now owned by VCY, so this will fill the void out there.
