Vintage Phoenix News Clips on YouTube

More bones from Jim Heath. This time they're all from 1994:

KVOA 1994: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNHrrcwgChU
KPNX 1994 (complete with singing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO8RZYjmNLs
KSAZ 6pm 1994 (different VO): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uSmaCbknNA
KSAZ 6pm weekend 1994: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8M1nQhmuYI
KSAZ news promo, 1994: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yALweQIk9PA (September 13th was the first weekday after they lost CBS; yes, that's John B. Wells on VO. Additionally, note the "Arizona Prime [News]" logo in one shot – that was the original name for their 9pm newscast.)
KSAZ promo #2, 1994 (with their image campaign, the Spirit of Arizona): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iSnyvAKoOs

From a 1981 TV series entitled Media Probes. Heavy focus on Frank Magid Consulting, including before/after of WFMY and clips of opens from WMAR, KPNX and WTAE. Toward the end, a full minute of Jerry Foster and a look at news helicopters with footage of the 1980-1 Phoenix floods. (Also, footage of a flooded Beeline Highway!)

Thanks, Raymie - The scene of the Verde River flooding the Beeline Hwy is a real trip back in time. That vicinity today has a huge AZ Hwy 87 Bridge above the river.
My family highly favored Ch 12 News during that era...

Raymie --

I was in Phoenix in 1983 and definitely remember that the "Hello News" theme was in use at that time on KPNX! It was funny because I didn't realize that it was being used all over the country. My previous exposure was in Providence, RI at WPRI with "Hello Rhode Island". I remember it because both are Channel 12. Darn it, now, I'm going to hum this stupid theme all afternoon... :D :D ... "Makes no difference where I go...you're the best hometown I know...hello <insert city..."

Hey I am bumping up an old thread. Just discovered this clip on YouTube tonight. I love this song and it is really catchy, plus Florence Warner has a great voice. I discovered a clip with Florence singing with the the Nashville Symphony.

I quoted that part from you formeraa, but I really love that part: "makes no difference where I go your the best hometown I know..."

I wonder how people get started in writing jingles. Sounds like a fascinating career, wonder if its too late to change majors since I will be graduating in December. Oops, that is my problem too many interests.

Charlie.

A bit of a bump, but I think this is a find of finds:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AXJTHMQEjE (7:44). While this collection is dredging up 90s news opens at a very fast rate, there are only three from Phoenix in all seven parts. I don't think I ever knew of an era when Charlie Van Dyke WASN'T the voice at 12. (Explains the female VO they were using in the first few years of the News Station era, too.)

In one part of that collection there's a WBMG open that hints that the KTSP Pinnacle-era open was probably a CBS affiliate package, plus a 12 News Today open from c.93-94 with Ron Hoon (when was he at 12?) and Connie Colla.

I sure hope there's more. FYI that seems to be Jim Lemon's YT channel (would explain the username and the presence of this material).

The last open proves that KGUN used the Balls and Walls TVbD package, something which bolsters my claim that their next graphics package is also their work. With THAT much Meta, how couldn't it be!?
