Oakland A's and the teams future

Thanks...shows you how much attention I pay to sports. I think the move was more recent, as in this year, though.

MLB indicates that KIQI (1010; simulcasts with 990 KATD) carried the broadcasts in Spanish for night and weekend home games only.

So I wonder what will happen with all these arrangements.

This is a sad end for the Oakland A's. They will be playing in an empty stadium for all of 2024. Why should anyone in Oakland give this team another dollar? A's ownership is garbage. A's had a lot of great years and championships, but the current regime is a joke...
If the owner even cares about getting butts in the seats at this point, their best hope would be to host as many theme nights and to honor various groups from their community throughout the season, selling them discounted tickets to try and boost attendance in any way possible. Likewise, if anyone in Oakland still has pride in the "glory days" of the team, he could try and have nights where they honor and recognize past players or teams who would show up, take pictures, sign autographs, etc.

Other than some of those ideas, it can be hard, especially if the owner is despised and generally doesn't care. I lived in one city where the team was playing out their last season before relocating. They were in one of those multi-purpose stadiums that used to be popular 40 years ago where the stadium could house NFL football, MLB baseball, soccer, concerts, etc. Those kinds of designs usually lacked intimacy for baseball especially and baseball fans definitely didn't love it. The owner as much as said that was going to be a losing season as he prepared to spend money the following year on a good team after the relocation. He'd also screwed the city over in a few ways. It resulted in a huge stadium that could seat 60,000 which looked empty and deserted for baseball that final season as maybe only a few thousand at most would show up. To cut costs they stopped hiring as many ushers and security staff, so you could buy cheap tickets in the nose bleed 300 level and go sit 5 rows back from the field on the 1st base line. No one cared.

The ship sailed a long time ago. It was clear that Fisher was far more interested in the revenues that the Las Vegas market could bring to him, bolstered by the state subsidy he's getting, than in whatever Oakland would come up with. What's particularly obnoxious is how Fisher and his representatives strung Oakland along. The likely outcome was clear to anyone outside Frank Ogawa Plaza or the Oakland Tribune (excuse me, East Bay Times) sports desk.

On the Broadcasting side via TV who would take the A's as it moves to Las Vegas. NBC Sports California has rights to the local A's broadcasts while NBC Sports Bay Area has rights to the Giants games. KTVU and KTVU Plus has MLB games whenever Fox is airing MLB games.

The one I seen so far that would get MLB games is KVVU Las Vegas when Fox Sports is airing Baseball games so far.

Here is one but this team is all hype for now and it needs to connect to reality for this to happen.
This take on it comes from KCBS's Phil Matier (audio file): What's the story behind the Oakland B's, the city's new baseball team? - Phil Matier

@TheBigA more / updated renderings of the proposed stadium that would be built on the existing Tropicana property were released yesterday. These look much different than the earlier renderings - and it's drawing comparisons to the Sydney Opera House:

Interesting. The renderings really don't put it in context. The design will overwhelm the small piece of property it sits on IMHO

A few things to consider - The Tropicana property actually sits on 35 acres (2 towers that sit relatively far apart, and what was once the largest outdoor pool and recreation area ever), and last I was there (December, '23) there were a few adjacent lots which may/may not be part of this project. Also, think about that particular intersection: You have the MGM Grand, New York, New York, Excalibur and the Luxor all adjacent to this new ball park. That in mind, the whole Sydney Opera House motif may actually work well there - but as you state, the scale needs to be right.

For some reason, they've designed the stadium so it's closer to Las Veegas Blvd. They want it to actually sit on the strip, not back towards the rear of the property. That's what I find a bit overwhelming.

This rather long piece ties the Oakland A's debacle to team owners' attempts to get public funding for new ballparks (e.g. Kansas City) and the awakening of fans to the blatant socialism in the service of private interests that's involved.
