FCC NOV For 92.5 K223CW

They noticed .

Here is the break down for those that don't want to read the FCC letter gibberish. 3 Violations noted.

"On May 17, 2023, based on a complaint, agents of the Enforcement Bureau’s Dallas Office inspected FM radio translator station K223CW (the Station) and observed the following violations:"

  1. "At the time of monitoring and inspection, the Station was not receiving their primary station (KFNC-HD2), Mont Belvieu, Texas (Facility ID No. 52407) signal directly through space but was using an internet audio stream to retransmit KFNC-HD2."

  2. "At the time of inspection, agents observed the Station operating with a yagi antenna radiating at an azimuth of approximately 310°. The Station did not file an FCC Form 349 to make changes to their transmitting antenna system."

  3. "The Station is authorized an effective radiated power (ERP) of 28 watts in the horizontal plane and a transmitter output power of 7 watts. At the time of inspection, the Station’s transmitter indicated the Station was operating with a transmitter output power of 100 watts"
I was making a joke. Translator is supposed to be fed over the air, not with a Barix box.

the signal was pretty solid all over town.. Normally 92.5 has an area it fights with the south Houston 92.5 lp but today it was pretty clear
Possibly off the air? Or did you hear it? Also is there programming because last time I checked it was just dead air.

I picked up K223CW well east of Lake Charles one day this summer during tropo. 28 watts should never make it that far, especially with KCOL in the way.

"Should" and "would" and "could" are nowhere as dramatically different as in Houston!

Well, it was still loud and proud yesterday. Locked in on my seek/scan in Sugar Land,. 7 watts my ass.
Speaking of Sugar Land, they do appear to be the broadcast home for the Sugar Land baseball team. The only problem is, this programming doesn't seem to be originating from KFNC.

If, as tybush noted, this is a non-fill-in translator, shouldn't it be duplicating the programming of the primary station, KFNC (since they aren't airing an HD sub carrier)?

I would be most interested in knowing how the FCC Enforcement Agent determined "the Station was operating with a transmitter output power of 100 watts."

Probably upon inspection.

this is old news.. Come on Engineering

I wonder what there required response to the FCC will be. Pursuant to section 308(b) of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended (Act), andsection 1.89 of the Commission’s rules, we seek additional information concerning the violations and anyremedial actions taken.3 Therefore, SDK must submit a written statement concerning this matter withintwenty (20) days of release of this Notice. The response (i) must fully explain each violation, includingall relevant surrounding facts and circumstances, (ii) must contain a statement of the specific action(s)taken to correct each violation and preclude recurrence, and (iii) must include a timeline for completion ofany pending corrective action(s). The response must be complete in itself and must not be abbreviated byreference to other communications or answers to other notices.4
