WXNY STILL LAGGING

In the last ratings Mega 97.9 is 1.7 points over WXNY. Mega keeps kicking their butt every time primarily because programming doesn't know what they are doing. Programming New York is not programming Miami or San Juan. They need someone that knows the New York market. That's a shame because they have a great signal.

12+ numbers have no meaning.

In 25-54, the prime sales demo, an average of the last 3 months shows the difference at 0.6 share points. In fact, since the metric for buys is the rating point, not the share, the 3-month average is a flat-out tie in that demo.

David, my point is about SUPREMACY...the consistent supremacy that Univision has in all other major markets has yet to become a reality in New York.

Keep in mind that X is the new guy, and Mega was the go-to Latino station in New York for a long time. Also, most of Univision's markets are number #1 because they're mostly Mexican-dominated, and they have Piolín, who grabs the ratings anywhere he's in... but New York is mostly Caribbean and Central American, and going up against an established brand like Mega isn't easy.

Yet, based on the 3/4 of a book we have, I'd expect WXNY to "take" the sales demos with a clear margin when the book comes out next week.

1. Piolin is now about 5th in LA, to cite one example.

2. The Mexican community in NY is second only to Dominicans in use of Spanish language radio; the 3rd and 4 places are Grandcolombians (Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela) and Puerto Ricans.

3. Central Americans of the nationalities found in big numbers in the US like regional Mexican... in fact, the #1 station for a decade or so in San Salvador is a grupera formated FM.

And the full book confirms this.
