WVLV - Art Greiner

In another topic, GuyFry said. "C'mon people....let's hear some Art Greiner stories. You know you want to.."

He was part owner of WVLV. I worked for him there. He also owned WSHP in Shippensburg, and was part owner of WVFC in Connellsville.

My dad took me down for the interview. My interview was with Larry Flood, the station manager. When the interview was over. I came out, and Art Greiner was standing at my dad's car, flailing his arms, I guess gesturing what ever he was telling my dad.

When I got in the car, on the way home, my dad was wondering who that was. And I told him. He said that he was some kind of a nut. That was first encounter with Art Greiner. Not my last. He came up once a week, and you could tell he was there about a foot away from the door, you could smell his cigars.

When he left, the girls sprayed air freshener all over the place. All it did was mix with the cigar smell.

They brought Ted (the Bear) Foreman from WSHP. The guys using the names Neil McDonald, and Dave Carson came form WAHT. Al Shade came form WLBR, and Frankie Dee came over from WAHT.

WVLV came on the air, first as WJWD on July 4th, 1976. The FCC gave special permission for that day. We were instructed not to use the call letters. We all put at least some time on the air that day.

WVLV(WJWD) went on the air to stay on July 12, 1976. WJWD were assigned call letters till the FCC ruled of the complaint by WIOV. They thought they sounded to close to their call letters. The FCC ruled in our favor, and Sunday morning, July 18,1976, we started using WVLV during my Gospel program.

It's hard to believe, this July, it will be 37 years ago.
