WPGC 95.5's format

I have been in the DC/Baltimore area recently for business, and had the opportunity to listen to the radio stations in the area. However, I'm puzzled at what is exactly the format of WPGC 95.5. I know that Mediabase and R&R have them listed as a rhythmic, but they sound like an urban contemporary station like sister station V-103 Atlanta. In addition, former BET Video Soul and the legendary urban personality, Donnie Simpson hosts the morning show and basically all of its on-air staff is black which I think strange for a station that supposes to be a rhythmic. However, they don't air gospel on Sundays and I haven't heard any public affairs show like an urban either. What is WPGC's exact format, is it an urban posing as a rhythmic or what?
______________

WPGC has long been known as an urban posing as a rhythmic. The same thing was said about them 10 years ago. I guess the DC ad buyers are convinced they are rhythmic, which is good for sales.

One thing WPGC should not do (and they wouldn't be this foolish) is to adjust their programming to live up to being a "real" rhythmic. As the #1 station in the market, that would be a huge mistake. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I've always said that there is no fine line between Urban and Rhythmic.

KXHT in Memphis is about as hardcore Rap/Hip Hop that you coulda got in the past years, and they are also listed as Rhythmic.

Very true. Urbans often classify themselves as rhythmic simply for sales purposes.

Speaking of KXHT. A lot of people on the Memphis board thought they would be dead when the new Citadel rhythmic came on. I knew KXHT would be OK because they play hardcore rap. The music on WMPW is too watered down to succeed in Memphis.

WPGC is a heritage CHR, so that's why it's listed as Rhythmic, same with WQHT, KPWR, KMEL. I think there's a difference between Rhythmic and Rhythmic-Crossover. Rhythmic (stations like B96/Chicago, WiLD 94-9/SF, Z104/Norfolk, and Wired 96-5/Philly) are stations that play Pop & Hip-Hop, and then you have your Rhythmic-Crossover stations (Hot 97/NY, Power 106/LA, WPGC/DC, KMEL/SF, JAM'N/Boston) that play Hip Hop and R&B, but cater to an audience that is multiracial.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO YELL I'M RIGHT HERE ! (lol)

EDBEALTHERAPKING, I don't know but that is actually a good idea. The next step in the Rock/Rap hybrid is to create a format around it.
