Would an "Old School" station in LA work

Funny you should mentioned that. WHRK in Memphis (WMPS’ then sister station at the time) had a rumored joke that Dees would join that Rhythmic outlet after they added “Get Nekkid” to that station’s playlist.
What was even funnier was just after Dees started, they decided to simulcast his show on WMPS-FM (later WHRK). They switched back to their normal format of classical after Dees’s show ended each day. made for some interesting listening…..

Yes, Dees went to that RKO station over on Highland Street in Memphis (yes, that same RKO station whose sister TV outlet passed on carrying “American Bandstand“ in favor of giving viewers Jerry “The King“ Lawler and his bodyslams every Saturday morning). At least Dees did get to play his hits on that station.
WHBQ-TV had a popular local dance show, Talent Party, (hosted by Elvis’s high school classmate George Klein) until 1973 so I guess they figured they had enough dance shows. WHBQ-TV lost wrestling to WMC-TV in 1977 but they still didn’t carry AB until 1984.

And George Klein was the PD at WHBQ 560 AM.

Before it was Talent Party, WHBQ-TV called the show Dance Party and in the 1950s, it was hosted by Wink Martindale.

WHBQ-TV cleared American Bandstand until 1971 or 1972. Wrestling came on later in the afternoon, but they noticed whenever they showed it earlier on Saturday morning due to ABC Sports, it got unbelievable ratings. So they moved it to 11 am Saturday morning permanently.

When Wrestling moved to WMC-TV in March 1977, I thought WHBQ would start showing Bandstand. But instead they aired a package of Abbot & Costello, Ma & Pa Kettle and Francis the Talking Mule movies.

Actually, WHBQ-TV dropped AB in April 1972 so they can clear Wide World of Sports.
