Due to financial reasons, The parent company of WLS 890 has dropped both the White Sox and Bulls broadcasts.
Any thoughts to which station will pick up the teams broadcast?
When you look at the ratings those two teams got at WLS, the question one needs to ask is who wants to lose money?
I think we're beginning to see the end of broadcasters paying crazy fees for sports teams that don't deliver.
Might this happen to the Bulls or White Sox -- especially the Bulls, who will have to find a radio partner at very short notice in the middle of the season?
Or might The Bulls renegotiate the contract in a way that's more acceptable to Cumulus and the judge?
Just because Cumulus canceled an existing contract (because they can) doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't reconsider under better conditions. Although it might have to be approved by the judge.
I thought dropping a contract would require the judge's approval, although I doubt that it'd be a problem in this case.
Back to ESPN 1000?
The White Sox back on WCFL? YIKES!!
Bring back Bob Elson
And I don't think the Bulls or Sox will air on a tier 1 station this season.
And a "White Owl Wallop"!
I wonder if this is just the first to be raised with the bankruptcy judge and perhaps more will come.
