WLIP Kenosha, WI

Kenosha, WI's one exclusively local based as well as only AM station since 1947 flipped format from ABC Memories satellite to 50s-70s oldies over the weekend after a year and a half run with ABC Memories after flipping satellite services from WestWood One Standards just before New Years 2004. Most of the programming is local for now. I'm in amazement not only because the music variety is good, but because the station hasn't ran local music programming outside of the AM drive for over 10 years. The station got struck by lightning on Sunday which knocked out the satellite recievers. My guess is that they'll run ABC Oldies Radio after they fix it, if this is a for good flip. As of now, its the only true mainstream oldies station within the area since WJMK Chicago flipped to Jack a month ago and WRIT Milwuakee is more 70s based now and WRLL Chicago doesn't go past 1964-65. The format is pretty good. Up until the past few days, its been years since I have heard songs like Shangri Las - Leader Of The Pack on the radio which was once very popular on oldies stations around here. Here's a couple of airchecks from today:
