Where's the R&B?

It isn't on the radio, at least on stations that are playing mostly currents. What goes for R&B these days is really Hip Hop. There aren't any real instruments in the background, and there aren't any melodies. Listen to the latest so-called R&B ballads, and the melody line sounds like the singer is simply rapping on key. What's a guy in his 40's to do, listen to oldies stations for the rest of his life?

There are a few exceptions to this rule (Kem and John Legend come to mind) but not very many. R&B has hit a low-point in its exsitence, and from the look of it, my soon be extinct.

Man forget it. I've been down that road before with no luck.

Just like rock , R&B ( Real R&B ) is almost DEAD . Babyface has a nice cd out but it is gettin no Urban radio support . Most Urban A/C station is focus on the classic R&B and Most Urban Mainstream stations are focus on Hip Hop music . So todays Real R&B groups and Artist get very little to no airplay .<P ID="signature">______________

It is a sad fact that todays R&B artists are getting very little airplay. It is a shame since there is plenty of real good new R&B product out right now. Fortunately here in LA, Urban AC KJLH is really focusing on the new R&B product and the station musically sounds good but the signal sucks.

Very true indeed. I LOVE hip-hop. The real truth is that it is getting a lot more attention than today's R&B. You probably hear a lot LESS slow jams. 80% of their playlists are primarily hip-hop, while the other 20% is R&B. I wonder if most Urban outlets (after 10 or 11PM (ET)) are switching into "Quiet Storm" or "slow jams" or "after hours" type modes. Or, maybe, they'll still add some hip-hop through the night. During the day at work when I make my deliveries, I usually switch to TAPE or CD once all the morning shows (i.e. Stern, Bob & Tom, Tom Joyner, Glenn Beck, et al) are done for the day (at approx. 10 AM). IMHO, corporate radio just does not cut it for me. That's just my opinion.

I found a good R&B/Soul Station on line recently. They play everything that's hit music. [email protected].
