Wheel of Fortune's Pat Sajak Recovering From Emergency Surgery;

Tyra Banks in less than 24 hours notice? Not likely.

Wow that"s the best abc could do is some mickey mouse mascot to turn the letters how original. They easily could have brought in someone like heidi klum or tyra banks to do vannas job while she was hosting.

The mascots were already on the set. They're always present when they do Disney weeks, and it was scheduled as such well before Pat had to go into surgery.

None of the episodes with Vanna hosting have a studio audience. All of the applause, laugh tracks, audience pans, etc. are dubbed in post, and it's made more obvious when the winner introduces their friends and family before the Bonus Round, because instead of being shown sitting in the audience, they're instead standing on set.

I notice that bonus round shot - like when they are taping in Hawaii or somewhere else. Must be bizarre for the crew to have a half-dozen or 10 audience members (and all family members).
Vanna's getting better as the week goes on IMO. Albeit last night's bonus round puzzle was so far out there it would take me 2 hours to figure it out. But we've had some good wins this week. Now let's see that musty, dusty and cobweb-littered confetti cannon go off before New Year's!
Still odd to have her hosting the show. I'm not used to it, and I'm sure other Wheel viewers agree. But maybe I should get used to it - how long before Pat retires for good?

I wish I had seen her earlier in the week, but I only found out this was the week yesterday. She'd getting better? That's unfortunate. She still messed up a couple of times and she doesn't seem professional and polished, but she does very well on personality.

Vanna replacing Pat doesn't seem likely when you consider how old she is, but I guess if Alex Trebek can do it at his age …

The problem is how much longer can Vanna look hot? It just wouldn't seem right for her to be hosting when she looks like a grandmother.

They will just load on another 10 pounds of makeup.

That's what I'm worried about. You know how formerly beautiful women look when they get old and don't want to admit it.

This is encouraging, though. Rebecca on "This Is Us" has got to be over 70 and still looks gorgeous. I think they're just not trying very hard to make Mandy Moore look old.

The whole week to date can be found on YouTube. Search for "vanna takes the wheel". There's a really funny moment during Day 1 when Vanna does the Final Spin for the first time.

If not for Alex Trebek's own health situation, I'm sure they would have had him cover for Pat instead. He actually once covered for a hospitalized Chuck Woolery in 1980, before Pat was around.

Few, like virtually zero, average viewers are remotely aware of the applause being added, or that the brief shots of the loved ones are staged differently.

I wondered about that. She didn't seem to have the strength to do it like Pat when I saw it.

All five episodes this week had the Final Spin bell ring at the earliest point possible, so all five of Vanna's spins landed in the same span of just three wedges on the WHeel ($600/$550/$500). I think I recall Pat hitting the $600 a few times, but he's usually a bit stronger than that. No way Vanna gets $5000 unless maybe she gets the Bankrupt first and has to re-spin.

SNL showed a photo of Vanna where she looked her age (but not really). Still quite good-looking compared to others the same age, but not exactly like she looked on the show.

Sally Field still looks great and she's way older than Vanna. She was honored on the Kennedy Center special that aired last night.

Middle aged and older women who are celebrities have the advantages of professional makeup and in some cases plastic surgery to keep themselves looking good, and more of them take advantage of that now.

They ought to loosen the wheel up a little for when she spins so it goes faster.

They're not going to stop tape before the fourth round so they can disassemble the Wheel and oil it so it makes Vanna look stronger. There's never a guarantee that Round 4 starts with the Final Spin anyway. The producers tend to manipulate the timing of the bell at times. I notice that when whoever wins the last Toss-Up (which means the right to start Round 4) is carrying the Million Dollar Wedge, even if the episode's runtime to that point seems like the Final Spin should happen, they will delay the bell and let the player spin a few turns in hopes that they hit a Bankrupt meaning there's no chance of winning the million in the Bonus Round, and when that does happen, the bell sounds immediately afterwards. On tonight's episode, the lady who started Round 4 had the million, and they did not sound the bell. She spun once, called a wrong letter, and then they sounded the bell for Vanna to spin.

I've seen it before!! Round 4 starts with the person with the MDW, no final spin bell and within 1-2 spins, BANKRUPT. I've also seen times where Pat says 'pick up the million dollar wedge', next spin BANKRUPT. Same with the Mystery $10,000. Next spin, the Bankrupt zone. Some nights that wheel is in a bad mood.
Don't get me started about that week last year where two different people lost $1,000,000 in the bonus round in the same week. I nearly quit watching Wheel for good after that.

I'm not insinuating anything on the show is rigged, especially not the Wheel; the show just really seems to suffer bad luck. Although it's often predictable when somebody is going to hit Bankrupt if you pay attention to how far the Wheel spins when it's that player's turn. It's not like those casino wheels or prize wheels at street fairs that go around and around several times. It's easy to get an idea of what the player's next spin will be if you know the order of the wedges.

I was just happy to see Vanna hit a different region of the Wheel last night. I was kind of hoping she'd hit the Lose a Turn (she was one peg off) and they'd leave it in so she could joke about how "This never happens to Pat!"

Now Pat Sajak has spoken up on the experience in a Good Morning America interview

I remember thinking, not in a morbid way, 'I think this must be death. This must be what death is like,'" Sajak recalled during an interview with 'Good Morning America' of the health scare that forced him to miss a taping of the game show.

Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak, who underwent emergency surgery for a blocked intestine in November, is on the mend.

The 73-year-old game show veteran — who has hosted Wheel of Fortune since 1981 — gave his first interview since the ordeal on Friday's Good Morning America, talking about his health scare in detail.

"My blood pressure had fallen dramatically. They had to wait till it lifted a bit so they could do the surgery," Sajak said. "My wife and our daughter was with me, and they were, you know, they didn’t know. I mean, you go in and they don’t know if I’m coming out."

"You couldn't do anything. I was in [a] fetal position, lying on the bed," he recalled. "They try to give you various drugs for the pain. And none of it — none — was working. And then they gave me something, I couldn't even tell you the name of it, but suddenly, I wasn't thinking about the pain. I just had these beautiful pastels and lovely faces coming out of it."

So are you saying they made the bonus round puzzles harder when they had the million dollar wedge?
