I don't know what's the best novelty song of all time. (I've got several novelty songs floating through my head right now as I type this message.)
But I do know one thing.........If anybody here says "Disco Duck" by Rick Dees, I'll scream! So do me a big favor, whoever you are, don't mention that song, okay? Thanks!

Don't have to. You already did. :)

I'll nominate a few. All with Billboard Hot 100 chart data:

Shaving Cream / Benny Bell (#30, 1975)
In Heaven There Is No Beer / Clean Living (#49, 1972)

Yes, I used to listen to Dr. Demento a lot in the 70s.

Earache My Eye / Cheech & Chong (#9, 1974)

I don't know if it counts or not, but I still love it.

Here's some novelty songs that made it to the top:

The Chipmunk Song / The Chipmunks (#1, 1958)
The Streak / Ray Stevens (#1, 1974)
Purple People Eater / Sheb Wooley (#1, 1958)

Based on number of weeks on the chart (14) and number of weeks at #1 (6), the Sheb Wooley song is the biggest novelty hit of all time.

Yes, I'd have to say Shaving Cream.
Benny Bell's version -- that is -- not Dr. Demento's tribute!

But I must admit, I'm very partial to The
Ballad of Saddam Hussein by Lawrence and David of Arabia.

I'd have to cast my vote for "I'd Have Wrote You A Letter But I Couldn't Spell (raspberry)" by Sam the Sham, with "Kinko the Clown" as a close second.

THE OGDEN EDSL WAHALIA BLUES ENSEMBLE MONDO BIZZARIO BAND

A Los Angeles Favorite if I ever heard one!

Fish heads Fish Heads Eat them Up Yumm.......
LOL..
Come on guys..

Perhaps not one of “the best”, but it’s always fun to see people’s reaction when they hear Dickie Goodman’s “Mr. Jaws” for the first time.

I also like that "Star Trekkin, across the universe"...
