What is Hawaiian Music Format

Stumbling across the ratings page. I notice 3 radio station in Honolulu has the format. Hawaiian. KCCN 100.3, KINE 105.1, and KDDN 98.5. What is Hawaiian Format?

There's actually a range of Hawaiian music formats. Hawaiian AC plays a lot of gold acts like 1970s supergroups Cecilo & Kapono and Kalapana, as well as softer-edged contemporary acts like the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and Keali'i Reichel. Hawaiian CHRs, meanwhile, play younger-skewing acts, mostly from the world of Hawaiian Reggae. Check out the websites of those stations you mention for more details.

For those who consider themselves "traditionalists", KKNE (AM 940) is the only "real" Hawaiian format, because they play quite a bit of pre-state (before 1959) oldies as well as newer music with lyrics sung and spoken in the Hawaiian language.

Just sayin.....
