What happened to KENI?

For years it claimed to be a 50,000 Watt "flamethrower" but now it seems more like a votive candle!

Mom, who lives near Sutton, says she just can't hear it anymore.

A friend who has an old Nems-Clarke field strength meter took some measurements right in Anchorage.

Station Licensed Power Distance from measurement point Field Strength
KHAR 5kW, 3.24 mi. 180 mV/m
KENI 50 kW<???) 4.05 mi. 540 mV/m
KBYR 10 kW 4.05 mi. 530 mV/m
KFQD 50 kW 13.53 mil: 510 mV/m

Friend estimates KENI is running 20-25 kW, maybe! They don't answer e-mails asking what's going on. Anybody know if they have a transmitter problem? Maybe somebody stole the ground system? Or are they just trying to save some money on electricity?

KENI had ben operating at reduced power so tower work could be performed during the day. Most times the power was at 5kw. Sometimes it was less than 5kw.
