WERT blown down by Ike powered winds

I'm a bit surprised that no one out there beat me to this posting but WLIO-TV and the Van Wert Independent reported this past Monday that WERT's tower was blown down on Sunday. It has been operating with a temporary antenna and reduced power (and its audiostream) until a new tower can be put up.

The Independant reported today the new tower is now in the beginning stages of being installed. Its Paulding FM station WKSD (I venture to guess) was not affected.

President Ike was running things when that tower went up in 58...and went down by a storm brought on by Hurricane Ike in '08.

A couple of weeks ago I was able to tune in to WERT 1220 just fine ... once I got north of Piqua.

Was also up north on the interstate coming back from Carey last Friday where I heard WTTF 1600 AM out of Tiffin which also airs the same satellite soft oldies format as WERT.

Kirkie - that would be ABC's Timeless Favorites (formerly Stardust). WFOB in Fostoria used to air it too, before they flipped to ESPN sports. It's good for what it is but gets a lot of flack from purists of the standards format since it dropped almost everything pre-60s.

I'll have to agree with the purists Chris.. Standards and 50s/60s Top 40 were worlds apart fom each other in my youth. ABC appearntly did it to save some money...but I'm older now and its okay with me.

WPTW,1570 in Piqua had something in the 1990s called "Unforgettable Favorites" which I think was also an ABC feed. Was that the same as Stardust? They now air soft oldies..mostly from the 70s after they switched from sattellite talk.
