Who do you think is going to get their current urban format flipped or skewed or who will join the format?

WMIB (the Beat)/Miami from hip-hop to Urban AC, with Steve Harrvey in the morning and Michael Baisden in PM Drive.

I would say KKBT Los Angeles should be a contender for a format tweak or a flip to Urban AC. But we are talking about RO so I don't expect anything from them.

My 2 cents for 2006.........

NEW URBANS/RHYTHMIC
1)Charleston,SC(Z-93 JAMZ needs comp)
2)Mobile,AL(93BLX needs comp)
3)Huntsville,AL(103.1 WEUP needs comp)
4)Jacksonville,FL(92.1 THE BEAT needs comp)
5)Greenville,SC(in desperate need for a REAL urban station)
6)Baton Rouge,LA(MAX 94.1 needs comp)

SAYING BYE BYE TO URBAN/RHYTHMIC
1)Albany,GA(R.I.P HOT 106)
2)Memphis,TN(R.I.P POWER 99)
3)Atlanta,GA(R.I.P 97.1 JAMZ or 95.5 THE BEAT)
4)Los Angeles,CA(R.I.P KDAY)

WAKING UP TO STAR & BUC
1)Columbus,GA(101.3 THE BEAT)
2)Columbia,SC(100.1 THE BEAT)

7. Add Evansville IN to that list. Needs a FM(WEOA is on 1400 AM)

Especially KDAY. Styles is gonna have to justify 120 million investment.

You need to add 7) Birmingham, AL (95.7 JAMZ needs comp). This market has been of desperate need of a real urban on a decent signal since 1998 b/c one word describes it STALE. Hot 107.7 would probably be the perfect candidate to skew toward the format since they're losing badly to 98.7 KISS.

Rats! You beat me to the punch (LOL) I was thinking the exact same thing. Hot 105 could use the competition and let WEDR and WPOW battle it out.

Cincinnati is in need of a FM Urban AC. WMOJ-FM 94.9 may be a likely candidate to segue from Jammin' Oldies to Urban AC, depending on who purchases the station from Susquehanna. Radio One should buy this property from Susquehanna and move Tom Joyner from WDBZ-AM 1230 to WMOJ-FM 94.9. It would be great if Radio One could save WCIN-AM 1480's current format as well. WCIN has a good format but it is struggling as an independent. Radio One could flip WDBZ to Gospel and keep WCIN as an Urban Oldies/Talk station.

WELL, I GUESS I WAS RIGHT BOUT 97.1 JAMZ.

Very true in terms of Cincinnati needing an FM Urban AC, but here's whats likely to happen.

Cumulus has purchased Susquenanna. Typically buyers...not sellers. Not good news on the idea of Radio One acquiring 94.9.

Warm 98- Unchanged

WYGY- Flipped to Smooth Jazz...never able to compete with B105, plus compliments for cross promotion with Warm. OR Spend a truckload of money trying to compete with The B. My opinion (which means little) is the latter is a real bad move.

MOJO- You very well may be correct here....fairly easy segue, with massive changes in on air personnel. If it happens, the only keeper is Tori Turner. In addition, Cumulus would just about own the Black population in the market 25-49.

WDBZ- Goes with National Urban Talk Network of Radio One, and keeps Joyner in the morning until retirement. While the station is not owned by Radio One, the likelyhood that they will maintain interest in their LMA is only if they can use DBZ to expose that network. Gospel an unlikely option.

WCIN- Not truly urban oldies anymore, and talk in any real measure has been gone for over a year. Has oldies blocks on weekday eves. and Saturday early AM. Michael Baisden in PM Drive. Urban AC Mornings, and Smooth Jazz Mid-days. What happens with this one will be more impacted by Cumulus than Radio One.

In addition, Cumulus would just about own the Black population in the market 25-49. In addition, If the #'s are any indication, Jammin Oldies has just about run its course. With a combined WYGY flip 35-64 numbers should be high as well, and great combo sales opportunites be it Warm/WYGY or WYGY/"Mojo". Finally, they could do some damage to WIZF in terms of their upper demos, while KISS feasts on whats left in the lower ones.
