Unless someone contributes some actual content to this thread soon, I'm inclined to delete it.

OK KM you make a good point.

In today's North County Times, Randy Dotinga's radio column talk about winners and losers of San Diego radio and among those skewered is Tom Leykis, referred to as "The worst host of them all" and a woman hater.

Here's the link to a very good column:

http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2005/12/22/entertainment/radio/122105131526.txt

Randy publishes his column late Wednesday/early Thursday and well worth bookmarking his column.

Every time I tune in (sample) TL it's the same ol' same ol', in fact Tom could just sit back and play reruns and no one would know the difference because he rarely talks about anything topical. He gets the same recycled 16-30 year old single men with a few token women thrown in to give the illusion of equal time. And when he does a live remote, the catcalls sound like a bunch of drunks at a frat party complete with "Ditch that Witch" only witch is a replacement word .... A few times during a live remote a woman caller will be drowned out by hoots and hollers of "s.lut" and "_itch!!" etc etc.

I guess Tom gets ratings because theres always an ample supply of sophomoric and juvenile men who jump on the misogynistic bandwagon.

Anyone remember back in the day when TL was a vegetarian??? Funny, he eats steaks now so he can be a real he-man haha. Divorced four times, Tom Leykis is a shining example of why someone with his attitude should never get married.

My question is how long will this act last?? I liked Tom a LOT when his show was political and topical as he claimed to be a libertarian with a small "l".

Re: OK let's make this thread meaningful

Ok thanks, KMRichards. Now, can you take me out Dotinga style!

Huh?

(More meaningless content, I presume. Thanks, SRF, for managing to make the only real post in the thread.)
______________

Obviously, you don't listen to Tom, or you wouldn't say "huh".

Now take me out old skool.

Re: OK let's make this thread meaningful

I'll tell you what always bothered me about Tom Lykis. He is a LOUD mouth. And, he seems to go which ever way the wind blows. At one time, Howard Stern (sorry to invoke the former King), had a press photo with long hair and shades. The next day, Lykis had an identical press photo.

I've only heard him a few times. But the times I've heard him, I didn't like him. He sounds like a grand stander, and a whinney one at that.

(Not really sure how this relates to the San Diego board, save for the Dotinga article, since Lykis is a syndicated host).
So there.

I heard Tom mention the article today on his show in the 4pm hour. He was saying that Randy was a bitter man who couldn't get a real newspaper job so they pay him $50 a week for his freelance radio column. He says that he's glad in a sense that he's getting some deadtree press coverage and he's returning the "favor" by blasting Randy on his nationwide show about him. If that was Randy's plan to get free publicity for writing a negative criticism about a nationwide talk show host, then he succeeded.
Randy also gets criticism from DSC for blasting them.
Mikey vs. Leykis in a radio war and they're not even opposite each other.
I guess that's how effective the saying "peace on earth and goodwill toward men" it is during the week before a little holiday known as Christmas. Ever heard of it? Roger mentions it everyday on KOGO.
______________

Re: OK let's make this thread meaningful

I used to hear (note I did not say "listen") to Tom when he did afternoons on KFI back in the wayback. Although I didn't agree with his political alignment, I thought he ran a good show. He was thoughtful and often presented interesting viewpoints.

All that is now gone.

You already answered your own question! As long as there are teen and 20-something Miller-swillers who giggle at the word "fart", there will be an audience for the pap Tom is now spewing. My solution? Just punch the next button.

Oh, it's an inside joke. I still don't think that qualifies as "meaningful content".

> Now take me out old skool.

Is that another Leykis phrase? (BTW, I don't see the appeal in his show. I tried listening to it a couple of times on KLSX and it put me to sleep ... in the middle of the afternoon!)

Maybe I should have just killed the thread, since there was no meaningful response to the meaningful content.

Some of you people are impossible.
______________

I agree with everyone on here. I loved his show on KFI when he talked about politics and issues. I dislike the act he's had for years now, but I guess it draws an audience or he wouldn't still be doing it.

The sad thing is that he is one of the few hosts that has the ability to talk about heavy issues and make them entertaining to listen to due to his animated delivery. He has the combination of being smart and having good radio skills, he has the talent to keep an issues oriented show moving. But it all goes to waste (for my tastes) with his current and never ending LCD subject matter.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

To the people who, after I posted the rant ending with:

... took the time to post some meaningful replies.
