The most lacking tornado season in history?

It sure feels like it! I haven't even heard about any F5s striking anywhere. And even in the hot spots like Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and such, activity is down by as much as 25-35%.

Must be making the storm chasing geeks on this board pull their hair out, ain't it?
______________

Having been through a tornado I have no problem with these numbers. If only gas prices would follow this downward trend.
______________

"F5's" are extremely rare. You won't hear anything about a tornado that powerful very often.

One of the reasons I left Nebraska was the tornadoes.
I spent too many evenings rushing to the station as
the citys horns were blaring....and then staying till the
wee hours of the night to keep eveyone informed.

We just took a Direct Hurricane Hit w/ 20 Inches of Rain

with 1.1 Million People out of power like myself. It could take up to ONE MONTH to get Power back, I have no idea where my next Meal is coming from, and you are talking Tornados?

As you may, or may not be aware, 2004 set a record for the number of reported tornados with over 1700, up from the previous high of around 1400. As such, the decrease this year is just the law of averages at work. The Fujita scale "ranking" of a tornado is not an exact science despite Hollywood's portrayal of storms and storm chasers. When an entire community is destroyed by a tornado, it matters little to the affected people whether it was "an F-5'er" or not.

As a severe weather spotter associated with the local ham radio station, I still am rather mystified at the enthusiastic excitement over the prospect of severe weather created in some people here in the midwest and elsewhere. There are, in my opinion, better ways to experience an adrenaline rush, than to wish for a killer tornado to come anywhere close to where people live. We should all be so lucky never to hear about strong tornados again.

I know how you feel. I lived in Miami Beach during Hurricane Andrew. I was transferred to South Florida in 1989 and luckily transferred out and back to New Jersey in 1996. Hurricane Andrew was my first and last major hurricane. I was lucky to survive. My home was pretty much destroyed.

Re: I never said I wanted disasters

People are misquoting me. Trust me, I wish disasters wouldn't happen. But I believe it is a punishment from God as a result of what Adam and Eve did that we as hummans will have to experience such severe weather and earthquakes.

And Miamimadman, compared to what New Orleans is going through right now, Katrina was a wimp for you guys. But then again, 1 hurricane would be too much for me and I'm a Cali guy.

ROTFL

It could also be punishment for what Clinton did to all those women.

Or even punishment for Idi Amin or Attila The Hun or Mao Tse Tung or Jeffrey Dahmer. They're not around any more either.

Get real.

You should study a bit of physics and earth science.

Your sensitivity to this Natural Disaster was Outrageous

Remember your recent Family troubles, and how you shared them all with us? It was touching, we all wished the best to your Family. And as 9 Million South Floridians had just experienced Part One of Katrina, you Post about "The most lacking tornado season in history?". Katrina might have been a "wimp" for you, but any Hurricane can kill. There is still a question why we weren't informed better (we lost our most Flamboyant Weather Personality to Federal Prison this Year). In any event if you were searching for a thrilling Natural Disaster of horrible proportions, you found it!

I hear the liberals are already blaming Bush for hurricane damage, saying that the national guard should be in La helpinjg out rather than in Iraq.

Maybe RadioGeek can get his thrills going to La (~L.A.) to help out.

In this part of south Florida, Katrina was worse than any storm I've experienced in almost 4 decades as a Floridian.

Even Andrew? Or are you specifically thinking of Broward County?
______________

Yes, Broward. That's why I qualified
my statement with "this part of south
Florida."

I think this was the first direct hit
on Broward since '65. Was that one Donna?

We've been VERY LUCKY!

I see. My mind must have skipped over the word "south". I generally don't split Dade and Broward up in my mind, it's all just South Florida to me. That's probably because I spent most of my life in North Miami Beach before living in Cooper City for five years.
______________

How Absurd!

This is the second most ridiculous thing I have heard today, the first being Mark Buehrle’s claim that the Texas Rangers cheat at home by using flashing lights at Ameriquest field to alert Ranger batters on what pitch is about to be thrown at them.

I just think he posted this thread at a bad time. Those of you affected by Katrina seem to be taking this personally. Miamimadman, I know your area got hit hard, but consider yourselves lucky, New Orleans, Mississippi, and other places got hit much harder. My relatives who live in South Florida were grateful the storm wasn't a cat. 4 or 5 when they got hit.

Katrina "Truthing"

We got hit hard down here, but the Gulf Coast States are devastated, and for Years to come. With 10 Minutes of P.C Power left, I read that Post about 'how great it would be to have a good Tornado story'. And there was strong speculation that Katrina would exit Florida, and grow into a Cat 5, and that's exactly what it did!. The good thing now, it's spawning Tornados.

and as you know 954, Miami-Dade got an extra hard serving of Katrina. When a Hurricane leaves your area, it generally visits new places, and that's why Josh's comments were so inappropriate. Wondering how great a Tornado would be to see, at the same time Millions of People from 3 States were evacuating their Homes, Millions more would be without Power, and at least 1000 will die.
