Super Estella 107.1 Returning?

Yes. They're going back to their Spanish Rock roots and rebranding themselves as SUPER ESTRELLA RETRO. At least that's what the promo makes it seem like. If you read the comments they say they'll announce the frequency soon - 97.5 FM would be really retro as that's where they started.

It's some kind of an HD-2 channel or stream, not a change in KSSE-107.1

Entravision is very happy with the current format on 107.1 and has it in place on around 20 stations in the Southwest.

Spanish Rock is almost universally unsuccessful on the radio, with the only possible exception being Argentina.

Wonder if Entravision would ever consider bringing back Indie :/

It's been 10 years.

When Indie was created, it was during the period when Clear Channel had a JSA with the station. it's obvious they wanted to use Indie to bring KROQ down a bit and to have a similar format to sell in combo. When JSAs were declared to be part of market caps, the arrangement and the format ended.

Market conditions have changed. iHeart has its own successful alt station, and rock is getting, in general, lower shares.

In other words, no way.

First hour's up. It definitely sounds like the old school Super Estrella that made them famous. The promos leading to the launch were very rock en español heavy, yet, they played some pop songs.

1.- Cafe Tacuva - Volver A Comenzar
2.- Mana - Rayando El Sol
--- Commercials ---
3.- La Ley - Dia Cero
4.- Julieta Venegas - Algo Esta Cambiando
5.- Duncan Dhu - En Algun Lugar
6.- Kabah - La Calle De Las Sirenas

9.- Aterciopelados - Baracunatana

If that is the format 24/7 expect a 0.3 share or something in that range. OK music for a specialty show, but not sustainable.

It sounds like they believe that there is a parallel opportunity for the same "kind" of format as KRTH, but in Spanish, and with the pop hits of the 80's and some 90's. However, the 80's was probably the worst decade for Spanish pop and light rock crossovers, with nearly no songs that test well today; it was the era when many pop stations in Mexico switched format.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I logged the first 3 hours, than I stopped listening. I walked away from my desk during those two songs that are missing. Oh well, I doubt I missed anything out of this world.

Puffery is something we all engage in when we launch a station.

But if we look at history, in the PPM era KSEE averaged mid-1's early on, and then low 1's from about 2012 onward. And that is on a fairly good signal, with at least twice the Hispanic population coverage of the two 103.1 signals.
