St. Louis Cardinals, Fox Sports Sign $1 Billion TV Contract

The St. Louis Cardinals have been the most consistent team in baseball over the past 15 years, and Fox Sports Midwest rewarded that distinction Thursday with a new massive contract.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the 15-year deal, which will go into effect when the current agreement ends after the 2017 season, is worth upward of $1 billion.

The new deal could open a can of worms for Fox Sports Midwest, though, because it will soon have a decision to make on the Kansas City Royals, per Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star:

Fox Sports Midwest signed a new deal with the Cardinals. Current deal runs thru 2017. Their deal with the Royals runs through 2019.

The Cardinals have a vast radio network, covering all of 4 states (MO, IL, IA, AR) and big chunks of IN, OK, KY, and TN. Whether it will still be so vast in 20 years is anyone's guess.
