Sinclair and ABC renew affiliation agreements

Sinclair Broadcast Group has signed long-term agreements renewing its ABC affiliations in 13 markets that come up for renewal during 2014 and 2015.

Three of the new agreements will expire on Aug. 31, 2019, and the other 11 will expire on Aug. 31, 2020. The markets being renewed include six of Sinclair’s ten biggest ABC markets, including five of the top six ABC markets.

The markets being renewed are: Seattle; Portland, Ore.; Peoria, Ill.; Asheville, N.C.; Charleston, W.Va.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Columbus, Ohio; Dayton, Ohio; Greensboro, N.C.; Pensacola, Fla.;

Champaign-Springfield, Ill.; and St Louis.

Sinclair is the largest ABC affiliate with 25 stations. The company’s remaining ABC affiliation agreements do not expire for several years.

Probably because ABC is happy with KDNL and si that's why, now if I were to be in charge of ABC when it comes time to renegotiate the affiliation contract with Sinclair I would've gotten rid of KDNL and would've looked at KPLR as the newest affiliate of ABC for Eastern Missouri and Western Illinois.

I agree. :) Some SL people say KDNL SUX!

Does anyone know the three stations with the new affiliation deals set to expire in 2019?

ABC's in a non-tenable position now with Sinclair as their top affiliate group. You want those stations to walk out and form a new network, or do you keep the runt and just accept you've got your own CBS 62 Detroit and move on? With the move to online streaming, the only difference to some in STL is they have to look at an ABC30 logo instead in the corner; they don't care otherwise.

Exactly right. ABC gets their money from Sinclair, network shows are cleared in pattern, and hey, no local newscasts mean none of those pesky weather interruptions (something more than a few like to complain about, even on this message board). The only people who get confused are the folks who apparently still call up KTVI on occasion wondering where Monday Night Football or their other favorite ABC shows are.
