Covering the survey period from Thu. 3/2/2023 thru Wed. 3/29/2023, age 6+ overall:

Alternate view (may not be updated immediately in some browsers):

Top 5+ demo rankings analysis will be available via AllAccess.com on Thu. 4/20/2023.

Note: KPNW ratings being discussed in this thread:

So much for the view that Seattle isn't a country town. It's the first time a country station has rated that high in a very long time.

(Cue Chris Huff who can tell us exactly how long). Country Aircheck says the 7.1 share is the largest in the station's 17 year history.

Gosh, the ratings for KPNW-FM are awful! I thought it had a shot, considering how KEXP does so well, even with its limited signal and DJs who are doing it more for love of music than a paycheck.

How can so few people be listening? The station did some impressive ads and videos. You think the station would get some curiosity listening. Not so. KPNW-FM may have the lowest rating of any 100,000 watt commercial station in a large market I know of.

Meanwhile, commercial AAA stations in some large markets are doing fairly well.

WXRT Chicago is #3
KBCO Denver is tied for #6.
KTCZ Minneapolis is #11

Yet all are a number of positions lower in 25-54 and lean older.

We often talk about the buying habits of older people, that they're less likely to change, and I wonder if that applies to radio.

There was not a huge demand for this station. KEXP does a great job of membership outreach. They have a performance area in the station that hosts local bands. What kind of outreach has KPNW done?

0.3? Thinking some type of typo on the calls or some other tech issue. Didn’t this sort of thing happen with another station that just basically dropped off the radar and then came back after it was fixed?

Another Example, Look at KICR 102.3 over in the Spokane market. 5.0 share? Really? An extremely weak signal that doesn’t even reach Spokane well at all is in 5th place? Not buying it. False data or typos. Probably mixed up call letters with another station that has a full signal. Multiple other country stations with full market signals and the weak out of market station beats them all?

Thinking KPNW calls got swapped with KKNW or something.

KICR is not an "out of market" signal. It is "home" to the MSA

The Spokane radio market is not the CITY of Spokane... it is the Metro Survey Area called "Spokane" and it includes both Spokane and Kootenai counties. The station covers about 75% of the market with a 60 dbu signal (give or take a shadow area or two) and has always done well.

Again: the station is "home" to the market. It is a local station for about 75% of the market population. The station has been in the 3 to 4 share range for the last year, and simply increased a bit in this most recent book.

Were is an error, the other stations would have been complaining for the last several years as it grew to the current level.

Or could it be that half the stations including a country station on 93.7 in Spokane doesn’t subscribe to Nielsen? So those that do get more credit.

KEXP doesn’t cover Tacoma, Auburn, Olympia, Everett, and other areas shadowed with terrain. KPNW covers all the areas that KEXP does with the exception of parts of Seattle not quite as well along with all the areas KEXP does not. KEXP has a 4.3 share with a small signal and KPNW a .3. Not buying it.

"Those that do" don't get more credit. The ones that don't subscribe are not listed in the free public release of useless 12+ share information. But subscribers, including ad agencies and ad departments of advertisers get all the data, including the non-subscribers.

"Share" always adds up to 100 as it the percentage of radio listening that goes to each station. It's just that the non-subscribers are not included on the listing you see online.

And, some of the websites that list Nielsen numbers have occasional errors in data and many make mistakes on station formats. Again, it is free data that is free precisely because it has zero commercial value.

KICR has 170 watts from a small hill in Idaho. Doesn’t cover the full market. 5.0 share.

KDRK has a full market signal. 0.0 share.

Not buying it. The BS flag is raised.

KPNW did a total format change. As has been stated by Lance Venta today, it's not unusual for there to be total audience turnover. And then, with adult formats, the build to a new audience base can be very slow.

There’s probably a good reason why.
Yes, and the reason is that there is not much agency business in small markets, and they likely decided that the potential business is not worth the cost since agencies get the full data anyway. If they are not subscribed, buyers still see the full data but the station can't use it to make presentations. They probably feel that they will do just as much agency business without adding the expense.
