Sale of KABC & KLOS and more?

Rumor has it that Disney/ABC has hired Goldman Sachs to represent them in the sale of their radio properties. KABC, KLOS and others would be on the block if this is true. Thoughts or comments?

A comment from the very tired moderator:

This rumor has been mentioned so many times over the past few months that I do not want ANYONE bringing this up again until it is more than just a rumor.

As for the original poster, I'm sure that if you run a search you can find the myriad of existing threads on several boards, if you're that eager to talk about this.

The rumor, in RBR and Inside Radio today, is that Disney is interested in selling the Radio Disney stations and the ABC radio net. NOT the big AMs and FMs... just Radio Disney and the net.

Take it easy KMR. You know they don't pay you enough to wear yourself out doing all the moderation, right?

The OP got the info from InsideRadio.com this AM and should have noted so. In the past, it has been reported that ABC/Disney would have huge tax consequences if they outright sold their radio station group and radio network. Their best solution would be to trade with a tv group (possibly a 3-way deal) to avoid the tax consequences.

For what it's worth my info came from a former ABC "insider". Since I only occasionally visit the LA board I will refrain from continued postings on the subject.

WHAT?
This again?

Didn't we just have this discussion?
Rumor?
So what? It's a rumor, that means it's not news.
And, it's an old rumor!

Wow. That's harsh. By the way, the Wall Street Journal ran an article about all the recent activity and coming activity in radio station/network deals and ABC/Disney was subject #1. So it's a legitimate topic to bring up right now.

Are you only interested in having the long-time readers on this board? I've worked for a station or two which made the same mistake of assuming the audience was as burned out as the staff on music and topics and lost audience as a result.

See post elsewhere in this thread, quoting Inside Radio.

Your "insider" misled you into thinking the whole radio division was up for grabs. Apparently the WSJ was equally fooled, though ...

Does KM have a personal interest in this subject?

Does he know more about this than the WSJ?

The WSJ simply got the report wrong, and did not notice that the investor conference statements they "covered" only discussed disposing of the Radio Disney stations, not "The Disney Stations." If a reporter does not know what Radio Disney is, then they leap to the conclusion that they are talking about all the Disney stations, or, in other words, all the ABC stations.

> Does KM have a personal interest in this subject?

No, I just happen to consult a lot of outside sources before I come to any conclusions. I neither work for ABC/Disney nor hold any stock. In fact, I never listen to KABC, KDIS, or KSPN, and only occasionally to KLOS.

> Does he know more about this than the WSJ?

Given the way the WSJ misreported the Disney investor conference on the subject, it appears everyone knows more about this than the WSJ.
