Rhythm and Gold

WE NEED this format in Boston.

The question is WHERE?

93.7? Perhaps

101.7? Good idea but who will buy out FNX?

103.3? YES! Keep the annoucers keep the weekend shows possibly add some of the old 400 from time to time.

99.5? definatly! Country music IMHO SUCKS! Boston is IMHO too urban a market for a full time honkey talk station. Let then go to OKQ or satillite.

94.5? I could see a weekend show.

100.7 or 104.1? if they choose to blend both variotions on one station this could fill the other.

107.3? A Definatle change of pace. I'm not keen of the kind of music WAAF plays, but I do believe they area VERY GOOD station for what they do.

Some places could probobly keep some if not all of the old format listeners .Others would have to totally start from stratch. Even in the case of the latters i would keep the old call letters.

If Star wasn't working, Rhythm and Gold won't.

Not for sale. Otherwise, probably not a bad signal.

Definately NOT to replace country: The format is doing well enough that it's probably moving to the full-market 102.5 signal. Plus, WOKQ's signal has gotten progressively worse in Greater Boston as a result of upgrades to 97.7 WILD-FM.

However, with a new owner of 99.5 coming, there's always a chance that 99.5 could become home to Rhythm and Gold.

Rhythm and Gold attempts to take listeners from Urban AC, oldies, AC, and Hot AC stations. There would be relatively few shared listeners between WJMN's weekday listeners and a "Rhythm and Gold" weekend show.

I'm not sure that Boston would be a good testing ground for Rhythm and Gold, seeing that the market failed to adopt the Rhythmic AC format of WQSX, which was apparently designed by Zapoleon, the company spreading Rhythm and Gold. However, if the format sees success elsewhere, perhaps a Boston station will appear.

Naw, country's cool. Great drinkin' songs too, like Brad Paisley's
"Alcohol". Even Kid Rock does a little c&w (though he's from Nashville
I believe so why not)

No one. Mindich won't sell.

I doubt it would do as well in the ratings as thier present format. A lot of people want to hear the same 400 oldies all the time, that (and the veteran air talent) is why their ratings have been good, usually the second adult music station in the market behind Magic.

Just because you don't like Country doesn't mean they should blow up the station. It does quite well in the ratings, especially considering it's not a great signal in town. It's a mostly suburban audience.

The future of the station is in question with the likely impending sale though, so who knows what may happen.

Wont happen, if Jammin Oldies never made it to Boston (and no Star was not a jammin oldies station no matter what the Star enthusiasic say) Rythm and Gold wont either, which is basically just the next generation of jammin oldies except they play ballads. In short a fresh coat of paint on an idea that didnt work ALTHOUGH the original Jammin 105 in NYC MUSICLALY was one of the best sounding stations I have heard in years.

Star was initially heavy on Jammin' Oldies, but as the ratings went nowhere, they moved to a more contemporary blend.

What do you mean by original here? Original, before they added the 80's-90's R&B, or original as the first Jammin' Oldies station, which it wasn't (that honor goes to 100.3 (later 92.3) KCMG in Los Angeles.

That is news to me I always thought it was Jammin 105 NYC because Joel Salkowitz (who put hot 103/hot 97 NYC) on the air, invented the format, that was my understanding.

According to the Format Change Archive, 100.3 KIBB in Los Angeles (a clone of WKTU) flipped to Jammin' Oldies, although not using the phrase "Jammin' Oldies" at the start, on November 19, 1997. 105.1 WBIX flipped from Hot AC to Jammin' Oldies, using that phrase at the start, on December 10, 1998.

Maybe but it would be a good idea to show the "roots" of many of today's hip hop tracks.

Have you given the format a listen? It is more then just Black gold. There are a good number of artists with tracks in both a stations's current format and the new RnG format.

For example of WZLX were to go RnG the last track of Classic Rock WZLX could be the Stone's It's Only Rock n Roll with the first track of Rhthym and Gold WZLX be Emotional REscue or Miss You.

I could see adding the music to ODS's library as a way to EXPAND upon = not playing just the same 400 tunes over and over again.

One possibility if Boston is not ready for an FM RnG station is to take AM 800 (spanish music) movie THAT ot a low rated FM and put RnG there.
