WFMD's jock lineup of Tommy Grunwell, Al Rogers & Jim Titus was top notch. Grunwell would have fit perfectly in any major market morning show in America--and still would (Tom's retired, at last report). Jim Titus is still on-air at Hagerstown's 1240/WJEJ and sounds great. Rogers was a very likeable & versatile talent. All three were as close to "celebrities" as Frederick had in those days--right behind early morning fixture "Happy Johnny" whose "hillbilly" act dated back to the forties or early fifties. (Today we think of Frederick as DC Suburbia. But 60 years ago, Frederick County was full of farmers and mountaineers--hillbillies, and proud of it)!

In the "six degrees" category, WJEJ is owned by John Staub, who in 1971 was one of the three partners who owned WMHI-AM/FM. John sold his share a couple years later to buy WJEJ, and the two remaining partners flipped WMHI (Musical Heights, Incorporated) to WZYQ--as 14ZYQ & Z104.

About that same time--around '74--WFMD-FM flipped to WFRE but remained in Easy Listening another 15 years or so before flipping to Country. In 1971 nobody (okay, very few people) had FM receivers... so WFMD-FM was pretty much a rumor.
