Pullman, WA market hapenings

Thought some people in here (those who have fond memories of wsu, etc) would like to know what's been happening in this here Moscow-Pullman market of late. Big changes over the last year KHTR gave up the ghost and went satellite automated alternative (and now sucks), KZFN keeps on keeping on and is now owned by Ida Vend Broadcasting. In fact Ida Vend (aka Inland Northwest) now owns all but three signals in the martket (as of monday). They hold KZZL, KCLK, KRAO, KMAX, KZFN, KRPL...lots of voicetracking, multi station promotions, and other fallings of consolidation in that cluster.

A couple of new signals in the past year worth mentioning. KFFR (97.7 The Fire) is a class A station doing a "Christian CHR/Positive Hits" format...commercially. Its actually a pretty interesting, very upbeat and fun listen, professional jocks, good production, and probably some of the best small market imaging I've ever heard. You should check it out streaming online...I THINK the link is

http://www.977thefire.com/thefire.asx

Pacific Empire is also bringing a new signal to the market. Their CP for a C2 station on 100.5 (Troy, ID) was just approved and we should hear from them by the end of summer.

I heard KZFN while driving through Eastern WA from Moses Lake to the outskirts of Spokane (Good God! Those Spokane signals are so strong in that area, they literally wipe out everything 0.6 MHz above and below their actual frequency!) Sure sounded better than infamous midday factoid-man Dennis Deccio (he used trivia facts as a crutch to help him get through a show. Every time he opened the mike, he had another factoid to spill.)

Christian radio has never been known for it's sense of humor. I'd like to hear what this sounds like....

That is a very interesting station. I agree, sounds much "better" than a typical Pullman station. One question to anyone in the know, who is the voice? I feel like I've heard it somewhere before but I can't place him.

I believe Jeff Connell also does Way FM's (the network, not WAYK/WAYG) imaging

By the way, The Fire just went from playing David Crowder Band to Hoobastank. Very interesting!
______________

Re: Jeff Connell

I was mistaken, Jeff does WNAZ/WNRZ in Nashville, KNMI, and WSCF in Florida, not WAY-FM.
______________

I think he's okay. Nothing amazing but not horrible. The sweepers all sound pretty rushed but other than that pretty well done.

kzfn mornings

has anyone heard steve shannon with some chick co-host in mornings at kzfn? it sounds as if he gets one prep service and reads it verbatim...i mean i know it's pullman but jeff and jeremy on KHTR actually sound half decent for Pullman radio. you'd think that idavend would try and make zfun, the only real chr in pullman, somewhat intresting.

Wow, i don't think you know just how funny you just were...like foot in mouth syndrome...or do you? lol

I think the KBKS stuff sounds grrrreat.

is the "chick" you speak of still there? I don't think she is. Steve was hot stuff back in the day (also on KZFN) from what I understand. I agree...NOT a very good CHR morning show at all. From what I also understand KZFN is now almost always voicetracked except in the mornings. They used to only voicetrack middays's (with deccio, and successors) Now Their afternoon drive guy is almost always voicetracked (and poorly) and the girl they have on nights has the most ANNYOING high-pitched voice I've ever heard and couldn't make it any more obvious that the show is recorded. Musically they are doing pretty good though. Much better than they used to do.

Having heard Jeff and Jeremy I don't think they are a good show for anything...ever. It is TERRIBLE! Bathroom humor and boob jokes all around. And how many times can we say bitch in the morning? Its bad stuff. But it is also KHTR's only live local show, everthing else is Wiatt Networks satellite feed.

Re: Jeff Connell

Jeff Connell is a beautiful man with a loving heart and a complete respect for everyone he works with at all of the stations he works for.
