Problems wit Boston Acoustics HD Radio?

Anybody else having problems with their Boston Acoustics HD Radio, such as short digital distance reception of AM-HD stations, or a once in a while 'motorboat' audio? Is there a recall for these babies?

Nor mine. Watching that HD logo light on a Class C AM 35 miles away right now.

I had one in the shop over Christmas, and did experience the motor-boating audio a couple of times.

Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong information, but radio-locator.com lists both KNAX and KFYR as Class B.

Son of a gun, you are correct!
Have things changed THAT much while I was asleep?
As & Bs used to be on clear channels, Cs were on regionals (including 550 & 570), and Ds were on the six local channels.
______________

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/amclasses.html has a listing of the current classifications. The old Class IV is Class C now.

Re: Problems with Boston Acoustics HD Radio?

OMG...It has been such a long time, I got my numbers and letters mixed up.
The clears were 1-A, 1-B, and 2.
Regionals were 3.
Locals were 4.
Now, I don't know what they are!
______________

Remember the digital signal is much lower powered than the analog. One 50Kw AM is running about 3Kw digital. An FM I know if is running 11Kw analog and 110 watts digital.

When you use high level combining with two transmitters and one antenna there are tremendous losses in the combiner.

The motorboating sounds like a defect in the radio.

I did just get a note on a mailing list that I'm on, talking about that and other problems with the BA receiver. Nothing concrete yet, but an individual close to BA is going to present this info to their engineers. We'll see if we get any insight.
______________
