Phone and email SPAM and SCAM alerts

I got a text from T-Mobile.

"In order to continue to receive voice mails you must update your voicemail software. You can do so by clicking this link, XXXXXXXXXXXX".

In all the years I have had cellphones I had NEVER been told that I needed to update software or I'd lose access to my voice mails. So I hopped on the internet and chatted with tech support at T-Mobile.com.

Sure enough, the text was a fake. They told me to delete it and to absolutely NOT try and access the link.
 
Automated call with some screaming guy sounding all authoritative like and real angry like, claiming to be an officer with Social Security to immediately call 210-XXX-XXXX about criminal charges pending against your social security number.
 
I got another call recently from someone claiming to be with Microsoft. I told him I had Linux and wanted to know what he could do. (I really don't.) He just went blank and didn't know what to say. :confused::rolleyes:

Obviously Ed McMahon could not always figure out where to deliver the check...unless he delivered yours timely. He did not deliver mine at all, and believe me, it was not because I was not at home, because I waited faithfully with my hair in rollers and a sloppy house dress on and everything.
 
An email purporting to come from the IRS, offering free assistance in filing my 2018 tax return.

There is an attachment marked "Summary of Accounts" which I am sure is just loaded with crypto-locker trojans or something.

Oh, and the mail comes from a .vn domain, which is Vietnam.

Now theres a NetFlix Phishing scam being reported and this is the first case that a Broadcasting outlet has been mentioned for an E-Mail Scam.

The holidays are a time for gifts, family, friends, and sometimes scams. The Federal Trade Commission has sent out a flare to warn Netflix users that there are some grinches out there looking to take advantage of everyone’s holiday bliss and vulnerability.

In a post on the FTC’s website, they warned us of scammers using household company names to dupe consumers. In a specific example, they cited a phishing email sent to a Netflix customer that claimed the user’s account is on hold because Netflix is “having some trouble with your current billing information”. The email invites the user to click on a link to update their payment method. Police in Ohio took a screenshot of the email (see image on right) that is a phishing scam to access valuable information.
