Maybe some of this can be useful. There are 14 fragments of songs recorded from radio receiver. Each fregmentam has Omnia.11 25 presets versions and Orban 8600 19 presets versions. There are also some fragments of the same song from the other radio stations (from air). This test is performed with 50us pre-emphasis. I look forward to hearing your views on this test.

Did you use a receiver with a MPX output into a sound card capable of 192 sampling, then the file could be played with MPX tool. That's the best way to compare processors.IMHO I have heard files of both units. Both are fine processors.Keep in mind the price on the 8600 is lower than an 11.Some folks like the Orban sound, other Omnia. To each his own.

It would've been nice to throw in some more older music, because a lot of today's pop music has built-in clipping distortion right on the CD!

For example which older song would it be? Which would be well suited for the test?
This test was performed for CHR and AC format radiostations with repertoire after 90 year.

Did you make sure both units are running the latest software? If not, then you wasted your time.

They have:

Orban 8600 Software Version 1.2.2.97
Omnia.11 Software Version 1.1 (119)

I think both are the latest versions.

For any user in the USA, Canada or Mexico, it won't really be a true test for us with the 50us pre-emphasis. The highs can sound very different with 75us.

How do we know that both systems were properly modulated, and the receiver was not being affected by any odd reception issues?

I agree with you. But I did not know the other so large and active forum in Europe. I hope that this forum visit the radio staff from countries with 50 us pre-emphasis.

Odd reception issues have been excluded because the receiver was connected directly to the transmitter (at R.F. test output) by a coaxial cable.

Modulation was adjusted +/-75kHz with self made calibrated deviation meter (40 LED level meter on the receiver MPX output).
Connection diagram:
PC with Winamp player => soundcard Lynx L22 AES/EBU output => Orban (Omnia) AES/EBU input / MPX output => RVR F.M. Exciter PTX-LCD 100 MPX input / R.F. Test output => Sony ST-SA5ES receiver antenna input / LR output => soundcard Lynx L22 analog LR input.

Odd reception issues can only be in from another radio station recoded samples. But even then, the antenna was tuned to choose the best sound, and smallest peaks on the modulation indicator.

This test was carried out in our own needs, to compare between two processors and competitors' stations. Therefore, it was recorded several songs from the radio competitors, and then originals released through processors. As a result, in the Winamp player can compare different presets mutually, and with other radio, simple like a switching station on radio receiver. And it all without time delay.

Files will be available for 2 months, then run out of storage time on the free server.

Th real question is how do you sound compared to your competition? Which processor do you like better when comparing to others in the area?

We are only going to install the processors, so I can not answer yet. Currently we can compare as much as you can hear the files.

Sorry, it looks like part of Omnia.11 presets have been in 75KHz mode :'( I record most of them on the next day (after Omnia restart), but if I/O setings is not saved, then they go to default 75 us. As my receiver have correction 50us, then the result doesn't match any standard. Although the hearing difference is barely noticeable. So files are now deleted, and after a few days I will place new links. It is a pity that in this forum can not edit all of your messages, only the last.
Orban presets is correct, with 50 us.
