You could do the "guitar lick of the day" and play a segment from the artist who signed the guitar and have the listener identify the song and artist...or if you want to tie in a charity you could display the guitars at a business and hold a silent auction, either on site, on air, or online...itmay be late for this but I once did a 12 guitars of christmas giveaway on air...just some thoughts
______________
I'll tell you about Texas radio and the big beat...Out here we is stoned Immaculate.

-----Yeah, you could do the 12 days of axe-mas. That is always different and unique! Tying it in to a charity is great and gives you great PR if done well.

Depending on who has signed them..and the demand..
may be some one famous, but i doubt your ROCK listeners
care about andy williams ...lol / but seriously,
tie some thing into the artist that signed them (song,
jingle,etc)..if it is more of a local talent..incorporate
some thing into the concert *that you should be sponsoring*

wedg.com / does the 12 days of axe-miss, and it is now
a 'tradition' and listeners "expect" it..

My suggestion would be to display them at a sponsors location and give a few away through a silent auction and do some "lick of the day" with qualifying prizes and do a big giveaway at the sponsors store to help drive traffic (maybe a guitar center)...you could even tie in some corny karaoke of the artists and best version wins....have audience vote online and in store, etc...

How about taking it to remotes, you can actually turn this into a sales package, 15 seconds of fame! You will need a small riser, amp, and the guitar. Give listeners who show up at the remotes 15 seconds to play the guitar. Everyone who does is enterd to win the guitar. You could get t-shirts made up for the event. Do it over a 2 month period or so, puts a great spin on the otherwise ordianary come spin my wheel.

>That's a cool idea...we had talked about doing something similar...nice twist!

Killer-Twist : ) read this all the way thru, please.

First off...we want to stretch this out through the Spring Book...
Secondly...the guitars have signatures from:
Dimebag...Slipknot...Saliva...and Bif Naked...
Now what are the ideas???
-
hey ray-zer, the groups (above) are awesome guitars to have signed !! : )
I know of three out of 4..Unaware of Dimebag's music..but i am certain it sizzles..just as I am sure you are unaware of Bif Naked's song
"Spaceman" If u are, listen to the (*BOOMTANG BOYS*) Remix..
-get a copy of it..u will be Floooored.. !!! !!!!-
(I have it if need be).
-
I am not sure if this has been said..but, another idea would
be play a preRecorded 'riff' and, a caller/winner qualifies
to win..the guitar !! (one a week..would carry from new year..
into valentine's day).
-
*Out There Idea* BUT:
Release a "compilation" of each artist of the guitars you have to
give away, perhaps 2 or 3 songs by each..on a station logo cd...
Then, inprint a "serial Number" on the cd-jacket..every day during
the 5 o'clock road block..the jock reads out (for example):::::
"K-rock code, #105.7(3535)" u have 105 minutes to call rock station
k-Rock at 1-877-xxx-1057 to validate your cd..good luck...oh look at
this, here is slipknot...this guitar giveaway artist, sponsored
by the music store"
-
OR Perhaps:
if the CD idea tanks, or is too legally complicated have the on-aire jock,
have clues of how/where to win..as mentioned, a tie-in w/ the sales sharks, and the remotes to get listeners somewhere/at some time..while there, you can also gauge how well your promotions team is doing there job...
Make it a game on who can be first, at a specific location and time..
*IF U WISH* even tie in a 'catch phrase' (such as, "I am
gettin strung out for the great guitar giveaway, on xx.xFM" )
-IF THEY ARE THERE FIRST, but just say "I want to win a guitar.."
they aren't worthy enough to win, and a "more qualified" listener
will be...

here's the catch..dont just say, 7-11 at 5:15pm..drop a hint
at the start of the jock's show..
Example..
(especially, if there are only a "few" 7-11's in the area)

3pm clue :
"..i am not a dog, so i don't where a muzzle,
i goto this place when i want to get something to guzzle.."

4pm clue:
"u may have to go pee-pee, after having one too many slurpee's"
(So at this point, it is obvious, it's 7-11, but which one)

5pm clue "...if u went to the station, you would be wrong,
but on the right 'track'"
(Referring to the part of town, this 7-11 is located..perhaps,
the one 7-11 may be next to the amtrack).

Or, drop a hint of the airport, if there is one in that vicinity..etc,etc.

(Twist on the above idea)::::this is KILLER !!!!
-Clues to this idea, work the same as above, but here is the KILLER Twist..
On the day, when you are "supposedly" are going to do the drawing
for the guitars, have a "sincere" radio moment, and have the talent
break out of character..or have a (sales rep) be an "OFFICIAL"
voice of the station..and,on friday had this to say:

".. Regrettfully(?Sp) report the guitar give away may be difficult
to contiune..as it has been reported that the guitars have vanished.
the Perp. is unknown, however left a ransom note (to be posted on
the station website) and, he will call monday at 7am..with
the status on the guitars, and how to claim them back..Thank you
for your time and considerations, Music will now resume on
[name of station]...again, please don't paniac(?sp), our legal
team is working on finding the guitars, and hope to recover them
ASAP. Thanks for continuing to listen to --rock--fm."
-
of course, the jock will get FLOODED w/ calls..On-aire "sell"
it as..yea, i had to show my ID badge to enter the studios..etc,etc.
-Also, the jock, on aire "reports" he is NOT free and clear of any
charges, but at this time, is NOT under questioning.."
[etc,etc].

then, when the "caller"/perp calls in monday @ 7am, have his
voice be scrambled, and the the clues be vague..build up
some momentum(?sp) and, the winner, (the one who figures out
the very complex puzzle you have carefully pieced together)..gets
the guitar, and (?) the reward that goes with it .. .. if you
work this idea, let me know how it went,

[email protected]
subject: radio_fugitive, so i know its from this board : )

cheers.

But...we will not do a fugitive type promotion...it's been done in this market already...rather poorly I might add...so we will do something else...but I appreciate the time and effort you put in here...I hope you are doing promotions for someone with that creative mind!!!!
Thanks!

Unemployed, but if i wasn't ( read this one : )

...but I appreciate the time and effort you put in here...
I hope you are doing promotions for someone with that creative mind!!!!
> Thanks!
> Ray,

Unemployed.
NO ego problem, i luv the environment, play well with
others ( at a very low cost: will work for Min_wage);
Passion level at an all time high; and, still....

-Finding myself: Unemployed in the radio world.

Well, Since there is no one i am legally showing loyality
for (aka-current employer) i will be more than happy
to share any/all my ideas..got some 'gems' for format
changes; contests, give-aways, etc..etc.

Just ask..ray, or any one - i want to contribute to
the first love of my life, the AM/FM Dial.

-
One of the things: I always thought would be "wicked"
Format CHange: Have an ez-Rock station, at 3am - 4am
on sat. nights be "pirated" by a well-produced show..that
makes it appear to be illegeal. (Most likely with heavy metal/rock,
or aggressive-street.cred rap music). THen, actually, and create
flyers, "advertising" the "barely-legal" broadcast ..or, very slick
tv-spots promoting, the "un-official, after hours radio show"..
:10 seconds, black and white, and the name of the station (ie:
95.3 / 95x ; the single-name of the "culprit who is the pirater;
and the time in which it is almost 'scary' to tune into'
Ultimately, have one or two billboards, saying the powers that
be, can't keeep me away anymore...tune in - when i plan to break
into the station, monday at noon - when every one is out to lunch..

( *Launch: new station : )
18 months later....."You're Welcome : )"

3 or 4 brews ???

> > > -I'm going to have to have 3 or 4 beers to just figure
> out all you wrote...

Well, it is tough to "write" out an idea..that takes
two seconds to -x-plane : ) <---here, have a draft on me : )

I wouldn't let any listeners play the autographed guitars...I would get another cheap strat or something...too much of a chance that the guitar gets damaged or the signature gets damaged...the the guitar isn't worth anything...Good idea though
______________
I'll tell you about Texas radio and the big beat...Out here we is stoned Immaculate.

Fugitive is also trademarked. You try to do the methodology w/o the consultant, that's a nice lawsuit. How about holding the guitars hostage, and threatening to destroy them?
