Name the BEST station to work for in Seattle market

This may be more a subjective question, but do try to answer as objectively as you are able. I have been an occasional reader of this forum for a long time, and I have often been curious, but never bothered to ask, what would be the collective winner for "MOST coveted" or "BEST" station to work for in the Seattle radio market. Today I'm bored so here we go...

If you could wave a magic wand, and be working for any station in the Seattle market, who would it be?

You can choose to answer any way you like, but here are a few suggested possibilities:

* Just pick one, that you would prefer above all others, and tell me why

* Pick one each from different eras, eg: in the '70s it would be, '80s, '90s, today (be sure to include your current day pick)

* Pick one each from different formats, all present day stations (be sure to include your top overall pick)

* Pick one each AM vs FM

* Pick based on job (eg: best as air talent, best to PD, best to be in Sales etc)

* Pick based on qualities (compensation, climate, personal freedom, etc)

* Pick one each from different corporations (eg: best CC station, best Fisher etc, please include top overall pick)

Do it however you like, freedom is half the fun, but really most of all, no matter how you respond, please do include somewhere (my primary interest/curiosity) what you, the forum at large, would select as the current overall "BEST" station in the Seattle market to work for in general and why.

GO!

I'll politely pass on answering this directly, but I'll point out your last three points are the most important. Formats and personal preference will only pigeon-hole oneself.

This is easy:

KMPS is number one. They own the market and the
staff is rock solid. PD is good to work for.

KUBE is number two. They own the young market,
the staff is rock solid. PD is good to work for,
so is the OM and GM.

KJR-FM is the up and coming station. PD is
good to work for, so is the OM and GM.

I understand folks at KMTT, KPLZ and KRWM are quite
happy, the turnover is nil and the staff seem to
like the PD's.

Danger stations, hot-head PD's, beware they are out
there. I know who they are, but have vowed to not
attack people this year, as you recall. The above
are the best because IKNOWITALL.

Best GM: MG at Clear Channel...LD, before she
left Infinity. Not sure about Bustos, Crista and Fisher.
Hothead alert at Entercom, Infinity and Sandusky. No names
because INKNOWITALL!

PEACE OUT

Gosh! I wonder who the hothead is at Sandusky! That's a freakin' mystery, Sherlock!

And isn't everyone at Entercom a little overheated under the collar these days?

And isn't Infinity the home of superhit, power ratings winner KPTK? The royal successor to the "KING AM" dynasty so many druel on about that was much ado about less than nothing??!!

Even I could have guessed those up! More details! More!

Just one? Why not a whole dream resume?:

For me...

In the '70s, KILO (Puget Sound's only AM AOR station!), KYAC, KING-AM, KJR, KZOK AM & FM.

In the '80s, KZAM-AM, KNBQ, KKFX, KISW, KJET, KYYX, KQIN, KHIT, KEZX, KXRX

In the '90s, KXRX, KNDD (first year), KZOK-AM (which was off network and local by days), Kidstar 1250, first year of Star 101.5 OR KJR-FM, KBKS (Adult urban and first two years of CHR format), KFNK (first year).

2000s, KMBX/KBTB, KYCW (Classic Country 1090), KISW (last year), Today, probably KMTT, KPLU, KEXP or even Super CFL.

This of course is contingent on a magic wand and a more ideal radio world (I'd also have to age at least another 15 years to fit the '70s stations in...)

I'd be curious to hear an expansion of your point of view on the KING legacy? KING as a top-40 may not have been a barn-burner (it was, by nature, a "more-music" top 40 which never tended to be remembered as legacy stations) --- but the COMPANY, it is hard to argue, was one of a kind. Several books written about its history and vision -- and I have NEVER found a broadcasting company that was as committed to being a reflection of its community than Mrs. Bullitt always wanted KING to be -- and which Ancil Payne did a good job of executing.

KING-AM as a set of calls WAS a dynasty because it essentially launched the company -- and had longevity mostly as a full-service station in this market before its top 40 ride starting in 1971.

What is your perspective about "ado about less than nothing?" I just don't see very many stations taking an interest in being involved much in the community any more -- and one could rarely fault KING for ignoring that part of its license commitment.

KING FM and TV apart from AM, are exceptions. But KING AM alone, was no wonder. It burned fast and dim, and it may have been a "leader" before 3 decades ago, but it quickly turned leaderless and useless after that.

Besides the fact that station alone had the WORST SOUND quality of any AM station possibly in US history! After they kicked the KING engineers out in the early 90s, someone turned the treble back up! Damn, it was awful!

And that ridiculous attempt to take down KIRO in the 80s was not even worth mentioning. In the late 90s, whatever the calls were on 1090 at the time went back to playing music! I mean try to take on KIXI or something, but KIRO in the 80s? Come on!!!

Music, talk, news, newstalk, country, hot talk, country, leftist talk....

Just keeps on goin'

Apparently Robojock works at "Entercom, Infinity or Sandusky".
