So, since I am not in Fort Fun and it is officially My97.9 what are they playing? Adult Top 40? Do tell. The description says the usual fewer commercials blather. Used to be fewer commercials meant higher spot rates now it means firing the airstaff.

On the surface it appears to be yet another bottom-line format courtesy of the "minds" at Crap Channel.

Everything.. Its your music, you program it you tell it what to play and it well play it.. want to hear a country music? go to my979.com and tell it what country music you want to hear? Or how about an oldies or whatever..

It doesn't matter it is something new that has never been tried before ever in this country.. It is an IPOD station for you! For everyone!
so there really isn't a music format at all.

> so there really isn't a music format at all.

For now. It won't stay this way. Remember, the iPod isn't taking over radio because, as with CD's, you have to "switch" to the song you want to hear. iPods are easier to do this on than CD's (it's the switching out factor), but still, the only radio that truly works is live and local. Can anyone in this market give me a reason to care about what you're saying? KYGO does a decent job of this, but is there really anyone else? News-talk is too worried about being PC, and everyone else seems to want to avoid being local. What, you might have a "stand" in the community?

Re: My97.9 versus Jack 105.5

I'm betting the folks at KJAC are watching this hoping the "you call" idea broadens KQLF's playlist to the pointe where they can't hold any particular listening demographic for very long. I guess you could compare what I'm referring to with what happens when a group of old geezers like myself go pump money into a neighbourhood bar's jukebox for a string of "moldies" and as a result run out all the Gen X'ers and younger that are in the place to the dismay of the barkeep. Seems to me the new formatt is intended to be "Jack" in reverse. Maybe they could change KQLF's call letters to KCAJ?

Is this really what they say it is?

So if its truly MY, is it possible for a competitor (or a few bad eggs) to totally screw up this radio station by consistently programming a lot of bad songs?

Oh wait - they won't let you do that? So that means its not really "MY" - but just another bad promise to the listening public?

Very good argument, Ed. Obviously if C.C. really wants this new formatt to succeed, they're going to need some sort of "check system" in place to make sure that nobody "runs the table" on My 97.9, whether it be a competitor like Jack or even a group of local kids with too much time on their hands. Having a registration is going to help, but realisticly, are'nt they going to need some sort of screening on incoming requests to make sure all listeners are getting "equal say"? Guess we'll wait and see if C.C. can carry out this concoction they cooked up with mimimal compromise to its intent. I sort of see this as "My" radio, but I have to "share it". One big question is going to be how many "crappy" songs in a row does the average listener tolerate before they say, "I'm outta here"?

Re: Is this really what they say it is?

I am truly amazed at what I am reading here.
Do any of you actually think for a moment that a huge company like Clear Channel would really let the listeners essentially program the station? If so, I'd like some of what you are smoking.

What I have read on the website is that they are playing the listener's My-Pod requests twice an hour. Hardly a major effect on the radio station. And how does anyone know if the showcased tunes are actually requests? If some of the requests match selections already on the playlist and/or library, then maybe they will get played. But with what is probably a 90+ percent voicetracked radio station, how the hell would the listener's choices even get on the air? Especially in any sort of timely manner.

Haven't those of us who have actually been on the air, 'faked' a request from time to time?

"Here's that ABBA song you wanted, Jennifer. Thanks for listening to My 97.9."

It's a gimmick, people.
Theater of the mind.
Smoke and mirrors.

Smoking in the boys' room, I guess...It's just that I'm not sure whether to ask My 97.9 to play the Brownsville station or the Motley Crue version???
Decisions, decisions...

Also keep this in mind..
This is a new thing CC has came up with that has NEVER been done in this country at all! IE I think of this as an experment that hopefully well not go down the toilet at all!

But you know something?
I think My 979 would play Smoking in the Boys' room.. I mean I don't see them watching what people request on the POD page!
so give it a shot and see.. also I like the Browsvill station's version. :)

With all the classic rock outlets available in the Ft. Collins/Cheyenne area, I think the real joke would be if My 97.9 found themselves getting bombarded with lists of mostly classic rock tracks...

Strapshoe, my friend.........I don't care what this station ends up playing!

But if they end up doing (in part) 70's disco...............PLEASE, GOD!
DON'T LET THEM PLAY KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!

Strap, remember when "Jammin' 92.5" came on the air back in '99, playing tons of disco music?
I swear to God, they must have played at least one KC and the Sunshine Band tune each and every hour??!!

Jesus! I couldn't take that! It almost drove me insane!

I can almost hear it now.......

"I'm your Boogie Man, that's what I am. I'm here to......do whatever I can."

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi 2001,
I can actually remember when 92.5 was playing classical and country and finally started taking a satellite signal from Jammin 105 in New York before starting up the "local" operation...I think it was during this time you were getting all that "disco" emphasis...
I suppose you're not ready for a full-time KOSI copacabana? I've seen rumours where Tri 102 up north is supposed to go "that way" once they relocate their XMTR site up closer to the Wyoming border. I guess they've been already playing some disco on weekends for a while now.
But don't worry...Even though personally I don't mind K.C., I won't put any of his songs on "My" playlist for 97.9...

Well, Strap, maybe you wouldn't......but I'm fearful that others might! LOL!

Re: Is this really what they say it is?

I have a question Does any of you think if I send in a list of songs and one of the artist is for example Alan Jackson or Linda Ronstadt do you think they will play them?

Ronstadt-maybe, Alan Jackson-probally not. Might try Michael Jackson instead.

Re: Is this really what they say it is?

If it is on the playlist that Clear Channel has assembled, yes.
Otherwise no.

They ARE NOT really playing requests.
Are you people really this naive?
This is not American Idol.

Oh no, does that mean My 97.9 won't play Clay Aiken's "Solitaire" for me?

Nope, sorry!

And don't even think about making any Barry Manilow requests either, Strap! LOL!
