Okay, as most of you know, I am in Central Indiana, Near Indianapolis. A few minutes ago, just before 9.00 p.m Indiana time, I just picked (RADIO DISNEY 1680) KAVT , from Fresno California, Here in Indianpolis, thats about 2500 miles. I have no idea how much power this station has, but it would still be on Daytime signal probably, since they are 2 or 3 hours behind us. Also, a couple more notable mentions, I picked up a station on am 1700 in Spanish, calling itself Radio romantica, I have never heard this station before either, Its a new catch. I also heard another Radio Disney on A.m 680, but I didnt get an I.D on it either. Can anyone help out with info on (KAVTs POWER), as well as the location of this 1700 Radio Romantica, as well as the other Radio disney on A.m 680 THANKS.

Ummmm.. Hate to rain on your parade, but unless if you definitely heard a positive ID on this station, there's another Radio Disney affiliate on 1680 in Ada, MI near Grand Rapids.
______________

Yeah, I dug a little deeper on google search, and Found that out, Both stations are at 10,000 watts so it probably was the Grand Rapids Affilate. I also found out, the Radio disney on 680, was the one in Louiville KY, thats only about 100 miles from here, so Definately not dx for a.m....I still havent figured out what that 1700 Radio romantica is yet.

Your record.

1700 Radio Romantica is XEPE in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, serving the San Diego/Tijuana market.

Not an unusual catch on that empty channel, even at only 10kw day/1kw night.

Makes KAVT seem more likely, too . . .

Re: Maybe not.... , But still dont know what the 1700 Was

The high AM channels work in the same manner as shorwave, making very long distance reception possible there if conditions are right. Before the XBand got populated, I used to pick up a station that played traffic in LA on 1650 in the St. Louis area.

I live in Kenosha, WI right across Lake Michigan (70 miles across) from 1680 in Ada and sometimes I get 1680 booming in like the tower is in the yard in bright daylight.

How about the low AM channels? sometimes I can receive Turks
and Caicos Islands "Radio Vision Cristiana" at night on AM 530
here in the Sudbury area, located about a 5 hour drive north of
Toronto, Ontario. I remember one time I had "RVC" in strong
enough that it totally drowned out CIAO 530 out of Brampton,
Ontario!

I've heard the the low AM channels are just past the longwave
band and I had DX'ed that band during the Winter months and
I've received non-directional radio beacons as far away as
Puerto Rico, Texas, the mid-west, the Maritimes, etc. and I
also heard one of them European broadcast stations between
153 and 279 KHz.

Isn't AM 530 a part of the longwave band??? some say it is
while some say it isn't. I believe the longwave band ends
at 500 KHz where the medium wave band begins.

Take care,

From Lee.

At the low end, I can get the LAX Airport TIS 24/7 here in El Cajon, about 110 miles away. It requires a Select-A-Tenna, and there's significant splatter from a local 540.
The 1700 XEPE mentioned above often simulcasts Mighty 1090 XEPRS in the daytime (usually somewhat before, during the Padres pre-game, game, and post-game, and somewhat after), into the evening, and early wee morning hours. Usually around a little before sunrise or so into early / mid morning (unless there's a Padres day game) it's playing Spanish music simulcasting 105.7 FM (forget the calls or city of license, but it's a semi-local.)
1700 XEPE is receivable at my location with a decent groundwave signal 24/7. 1090 is a few dB stronger.

Would that have been a TIS? If so, did you ever figure out which one it was?

Romántica is Tijuana, BCN, Mexico. 10 d and 1 n like nearly every other X bander.

Many people in North America logged the Argentine X Banders before the US populated the band. Some of these were much lower power, but on totally open channels.

No, it was Sol Levine's Costa Mesa X bander.

Point of order--FAT-IND is 1819 statute miles.

Two hours. (I'll resist any temptation to make a
comment about "what time is it in Indiana?" ;-)

Whatever time they want it to be :)

Absolutely not.

Technically, they go like this:

VLF...............10KHz-30KHz (30km-10km)
LF(LW)........30KHz-300KHz (10km-1km)
MF(MW)...300KHz-3000KHz (1km-100m)
HF(SW).........3MHz-30MHz (100m-10m)
VHF...........30MHz-300MHz (10m-1m)
UHF.......300MHz-3000MHz (1m-10cm)
SHF...............3GHz-30GHz (10cm-1cm)
EHF............30GHz-300GHz (1cm-1mm)
______________
