Management changes at Amazon Studios

Orion Television will be relabled as MGM Television according to these Changes.

EXCLUSIVE: After recently restructuring Amazon Studios’ original content operations, Head of Television Vernon Sanders is now setting up the MGM scripted TV leadership with new roles for Lindsay Sloane, Senior EVP of MGM Scripted TV, and Rola Bauer, President of International TV for MGM. He laid out the reorganization in an internal memo, a copy of which was obtained by Deadline (you can read it in full below).
As part of the restructuring, MGM US Scripted TV will absorb Orion Television, the label that was revived two years ago. Orion TV SVP Bradley Gardner, who led the programming team, is stepping down and is in discussions for a producing deal at MGM TV.

Sanders’ memo does not mention Michael Wright, who most recently served as President of MGM Scripted Television and President of MGM+ (formerly Epix). As Deadline reported earlier this month, the expectation is that Wright, who had run Epix before expanding his role in 2021 to oversee MGM’s scripted studio following Steve Stark’s exit, would once again focus on MGM+, which is taking on a new role as part of the larger Amazon TV portfolio.

Mark Burnett exits MGM Television.

Mark Burnett, Chairman of MGM’s Worldwide Television Group, is exiting after the company’s $8.5B acquisition by Amazon.

Burnett is leaving the company and will return to “independently creating and innovating” but will continue to oversee his legacy series, which include Survivor, Shark Tank and The Voice.

Last week, Deadline revealed that the man behind The Apprentice, was weighing his options as the fold-up between Amazon and MGM gains pace.

More details about the overall structure between Amazon and MGM are expected soon with Prime Video and Studios boss Mike Hopkins saying staff will be “hearing more shortly” about the re-organization.

Here is more.

Jennifer Salke just got a big vote of confidence at Amazon Studios.

The head of Amazon Studios has just been handed total control of MGM’s film and television divisions following the retail giant/streamer’s February acquisition of the storied studio behind the James Bond and Rocky/Creed franchises.

The Salke announcement is but one of multiple staffing moves announced via a trio of internal memos late Tuesday by Amazon’s Mike Hopkins, Salke herself and MGM COO Chris Brearton, who as The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported is staying on but in a new role as vp PVS corporate strategy at MGM+ and MGM Alternative Television. (Read the memos, below.)

Jeff Blackburn to retire from Amazon Studios.

Jeff Blackburn is retiring.

The head of Amazon’s Global Entertainment Group will sign off from the company in January after more than two decades with the retail giant and streaming platform. The moves were announced Friday via internal memos from Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Blackburn himself.

The news comes a year and a half after Blackburn returned from a yearlong sabbatical in a new role as head of the company’s global entertainment group that included combined oversight of music, audio entertainment, games and video for the company.
