Looking For Internet Soft AC Streams

M

Music Lover

Guest
For various reasons, my family has turned to listening to Internet Soft AC stations.

Of ones we tuned in to, these are two we like best:

Soft N Easy Net Radio
http://www.softneasy.com/

Lite 99
http://lite99online.com/

Would love to know of some more streams like these that I can add to my iTunes playlist - ones that are mostly commercial-free with no annoying DJs and that play some soft currents by artists such as Lady Antebellum, Adele, Michael Buble, Colbie Caillat, Josh Groban, Christina Perri, John Mayer, and Jason Mraz.

LOL! Looks like I'm going to have to reply to myself!

Here's another commercial-free Soft AC stream for my iTunes playlist:

Heartbeat FM
http://heartbeatfm.net/

The station plays love songs 24/7 by artists such as Elton John, Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Billy Joel, Phil Collins, Gloria Estefan, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Whitney Houston, Journey, Toto, Taylor Swift, Madonna, Kelly Clarkson, to name a few.

Thanks for the mention, Music Lover. Glad to know we are in your favorite top 2 soft AC stations! btw, Soft N Easy Net Radio is a really good station as well. I have listened to it for many years before starting Lite 99, and it, too, follows the original "formula" for traditional soft AC...employing mostly older soft rock classics with a couple currents thrown in per hour. Our local soft AC FM station here in Birmingham only offers music up to around the year 1990 (why??), with many of the format's staple artists missing, so we are glad that we can offer an alternative to listeners here. :)

I've come across some web-only stations like that too and why is a very good question.

This one I'm dropping from my list. Selections have been hit and miss.

Here's some information about a new Soft AC station that is in the works. It will be called The Seabreeze. It will be 60s years of easy listening vocals. Supposed to premiere in 2014. I suspect the premiere date may be delayed because I haven't heard about it since February.

My family's favorite Soft AC's in our neck of the woods started off like this Breeze station, initially playing instrumental/vocal mix, then weeded out the instrumentals. Now, those stations no longer exist.

I'm not sure if this is the same station that you mentioned, but a friend of mine is working with John Meyer at the "Breeze" and operating an online soft AC station called "Ocean Breeze". This may be the "Seabreeze" station that was planned for 2014, but they opted for a different name.

yes, I have heard of "The Oasis", which has more of a modern sound to it....another friend of mine operates it. He and I are working together to build a group of online-only, locally-based, not-for-profit beautiful music stations across the country (we're up to 6 stations thus far, "The Oasis" being one of them). He is programming another station in the group, WMEZ-DB "EZ 94" in Pensacola, FL.

I remember the DreamRadio group of stations and listened to them quite a bit. They were really good as well.

Of the DreamRadio stations, the one that would have been specifically classified as Soft AC was the Soft Rock stream. Very much enjoyed that one.

This is a channel I came across recently when I was checking airplay for some singers I like on Tunein.com: http://www.channelztheedge.com/

It's like Joy 99.5 - half mellow, half edgy - but with a larger playlist.

Sample playlist:

Lady Love Me - George Benson
Sister Golden Hair - America
Colors Of The Wind - Vanessa Williams
I'll Still Be Loving You - Restless Heart
All Of You - Julio Iglesias
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Only In My Dreams - Debbie Gibson
Over You - Daughtry
I Go Crazy - Paul Davis

Besides some country, most of the current music I've heard so far on Channel Z The Edge is the guitar-driven sounds that were popular on AC between 2000-2010. Have yet to hear any of the rhythmic sounds that are popular on AC now.

This is an example of the kind of playlist I've been looking for: http://www.easy981.com/music/broadcasthistoryaspx.aspx

One that includes songs such as "Better In Time" by Leona Lewis, "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson, "Apologize" by One Republic, "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt", "Thank You" by Dido, "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's, mixed with lite hits by Elton John, Celine Dion, The Eagles, Richard Marx and so on.

The only difference is that I'm interested in adding some like that to my iTunes playlist that do not include annoying DJs and other such chatter.

Are you sure about Lynyrd Skynyrd? There is another version of their song that was played on AC.

And by the way, this is all AC that has been mentioned today. This is the standards board.

This particular discussion is here because this section of the board is called Soft AC/EZ Listening/Standards, NOT just Standards. Soft AC is lumped together here because it shares similar artists: Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Neil Diamond, The Carpenters, Barry Manilow, etc. I've also put this discussion in the Mainstream AC forum as well but it fits more here because Mainstream AC has moved away from the Continuous Soft Hits of the 80s/90s/early 00s era. I'm the type of listener who enjoys some new pop artists but loves hearing older pop songs in a soft rock/easy listening setting as opposed to Classic Hits or Oldies or Standards.

Now, if you are going to participate in this discussion, please be useful and give me some suggestions of some streams that I can use iTunes to listen with, streams like this iHeart Sunny stream: http://www.iheart.com/live/Sunny-Radio-5014/
but ones that include some 2010's lite pop hits. Examples of lite pop hits I'm interesting in hearing on such stations: "All Of Me" by John Legend, "Say Something" by Great Big World and Christina Aguilera, "Let It Go" by Idina Menzel, "Story Of My Life" by One Direction, "Fireflies" by Owl City, "Let Her Go" by Passenger.

I'm also unsure of whether or not they're the same but I like it. Also love your friend's other Soft AC station, Soft Hits and Lost Hits. http://www.radionomy.com/en/radio/soft-hits-and-lost-hits
There's a couple of 80s lite hits on the station I haven't heard since I was a kid! "Toy Soldiers" by Martika, "Never-ending Story" by Limahl!

Vchimpanzee,

Ocean Breeze and Soft Hits and Lost Hits are two examples of ones that are a) stream-able in iTunes and b) don't have a lot of annoying chatter. I have yet to hear anything from the 2010's on those stations but they do have some things I liked from the early 00's.

I didn't know this was on the AC board too. That works better.

After giving a second look to the list of songs posted previously, I see only three or four of them wouldn't fit the standards format, so I guess they aren't totally out of place here. But the first people I saw were Daughtry, Debbie Gibson and Lynyrd Skynyrd and those are way off.
