LARadio.com teasing format flip tomorrow

K

Guest
The "night before" e-mail from LARadio.com says there is a format flip happening at 6:00 tomorrow morning and says it is the "ultimate shuffle".

Based on the list of people Don includes with that e-mail as being mentioned in his column, it's definitely not KRTH, KLOS, or any of the Spanish language stations. However, Rick Dees is mentioned somewhere in tomorrow's column (although that could be in the "x years ago" section).

This has me wondering.

Could be some sort of teaser that is meant to fool us. My only thought is that SBS may try and move "Latino" - but doubtful until their day in court.

I predict the Rick Dees blurb will be unrelated to the format change, and as you suspected, will be be the "X years ago". I love Don's website, but I find it annoying that he uses names from the "X Years Ago" section in the previous night's teaser. It's probably my only complaint about laradio.com

Again, don't expect to hear Rick Dees in the Morning on terrestrial radio anytime soon, if ever again. It ain't gonna happen. Sad but true!
Edited by TurnItOn on 06/13/05 06:19 AM.

Well, radiospasm mentioned on the CHR/Rhythmic board that a major radio market in California was going to pick up another Rhythmic soon and hinted it would target the only one in town.

Yeah, you're right. Over the past few days, they (1260) have been running spot ads saying " Chchchchcanges are coming, listen to Rod West at 6:00 A.M. Monday" using David Bowie's Changes song as the background. At first I figured maybe a re-tooling of the Oldies line up to capitalize on the current slide going on at KRTH, but when I logged on to their site, it was blank saying only changes are coming. Then I highly suspected a format change. This is really too bad from an Oldies point of view because I quite liked their playlist.
Well, it's only been on air for half an hour now, so I will reserve my judgement until later when I hear enough of what they're playing.
By the way, it's now 1260 Oldies - The Shuffle.
Stay tuned..........

Oh, by the way, I forgot the most important detail - Rod West is now announcing:
"540/1260 Oldies -The Shuffle - Playing what we like to play."
Hmmmmmmm, I wonder where that idea came from? Could it be? Nah, not another Jack clone - oldies style?

And in case you didn't listen long enough, it is not a Dance format station.

You are correct, and I was answering about all the formats on 1260, which have been more numerous than 540.

I thought it was on 1650 and then one of the two - either 540 or 1260...

BTW, That was my favorite format. Maybe a format for PPM.

IIRC, K-Traffic was simulcast briefly on 1260, in morning drive only.

All seem to be resigned and most content to believe the ongoing (and mostly Clear Channel propelled) messsage suggesting that Dees' ship has sunk. FAAAAAAAAAAAR from it.

Don't clump me in that bunch. I agree Clear Channel is pushing that anti-Dees message, but that's not what I based my previous post on. I know for a fact Dees doesn't need the money. I also know for a fact KRTH chose Dees, but went with Hollywood Hamilton at the last minute because of money (and a couple of other lesser reasons). The reality is Clear Channel is trying to destroy Dees, Infinity isn't paying talent the big bucks any longer and no other station in town has deep enough pockets to play ball with Dees. Again, Dees does not need the money so he's not gonna work for the $1-$3 million these guys want to pay him. Dees is an investor, so I contend the only way you'll hear him do a morning show again is if he owns the venue and can really clean up.

"I know for a fact ..." "I know for a fact ..."

Do we have another "insider" or another "I'm going to tell you it's a fact in hopes that you will take me seriously"?

Or are you Dees' lawyer?

I am soooooo tired of these rumors passed off as fact. And it's not just the Dees rumors.
