KRCM, K217DJ, K291CE: Forced to Pump the Brakes

Since the 5-0 of Houston radio has been vanquished from these parts, we've been left in the dark. However, it appears that he's still hard at work causing grief for some of our local operators. As mentioned in the Radio Aleluya thread, 1380 KRCM's upgrade and move to Prairie View has been rescinded. The Kemah translator at 91-3 is denied change in ownership, and K291CE (K-Breeze, if you will) appears they will be stuck with the SW directional pattern.

While one may not agree with his tactics or motivation, you must admit, him raising a stink has certainly raised a lot of eyebrows around the Houston area. He may be overstating the reaction to his plight on Facebook, but he most certainly has caught the attention of the FCC.

So what now happens to KRCM? As noted in the other thread, 1380 is already on the air from the new site and has been testing the 22kW periodically. Must they now return to Shenandoah, or is the more likely scenario that Daij shuts it down until this situation is rectified? This one's had troubles since before it moved here from Beaumont. It sure has fallen a long way from its days as the Golden Triangle's K-JET.

Are we about to lose K291CE altogether, given its current ownership? The FCC can yank the license of an unfit broadcaster, as history has shown us. What would be the next step for these guys now holding useless construction permits for KRCM & K291CE?

Much of this is due to the current broadcast environment of stations having one entity holding the license, another entity operating the station, and yet someone else producing the programming. A lot different from the days where a single company or individual was in control of everything. The group structure involved with 106.1 just seems bizarre.

Another problem is the often arrogant and egotistical behaviors of "capitalism at its worst." A lot of people in the business world have the attitude of "The truth is whatever I say it is" or "Rules are for losers" or "I don't care as long as it makes money and I can get away with it." Therefore you have a lot of owners and operators who push the envelope on what is legal or even moral.

You see the same sort of thing in the real estate/property ownership industry, which has plenty of speculators and money grubbers. I'm not saying that everyone involved in broadcasting is this way (a majority are not) but it seems like were seeing more bad behavior these days.

Lets also keep in mind that honest business people can fall victim to unscrupulous outside contractors.
