KJUL, Las Vegas, now country

Here's how it's explained on the KJUL website:

Dear KJUL Listener,

Beasley Broadcast Group sincerely regrets the necessity to change the music programming on 104.3 KJUL-FM.

We are aware of how much the "Great Music' format has meant to listeners like you throughout Las Vegas and Southern Nevada over the last 10 years.

Unfortunately, recent shifts in the demographic characteristics in the Las Vegas market caused KJUL's audience levels to decline. Please know that the decision to change the programming was not made lightly.

We thank you for your past loyal support and we hope that you will sample our new Country Music format. Country music has been called "America's Music" and is enjoying great popularity among adult listeners throughout the United States.

I got to hear KJUL back in April when I walked my daughter down the wedding chapel aisle. They were on full time in the car and on the walkman I always bring along. Excellent execution of the format. Always well rated but I agree with Beasley's reasoning, Las Vegas is no longer Gambling first and Retirement second.

I wish they'd make a internet stream format.

What did they use to play standards or b/ez?

KJUL was standards. They played many of the artists that made Vegas famous years ago. Lot's of Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc. They mixed in some classic soft AC as well.

After being #1 or #2 12+ for years (it was all 55+), their ratings have been falling in recent years. They hit an all time low in the Spring 05 book, down to 9th place 12+, mostly 65+, their audience was literally dying off and their billing was off as well. After the Spring book, I had a feeling they might flip formats.
