KHTK Sacramento Re-brands As 'Sactown Sports.

Fans of the reality show “Bar Rescue” remember a failing sports bar owner, the type of setup the owner was adamant on keeping, stating that Sacramento was a huge sports town. Host Jon Taffer then read the ratings of each sports station, which were all anemic. Taffer refused to give the guy another sports bar, banishing a lifetime of memorabilia.

Sounds vaguely phallic.

Off-topic, but Taffer once "rescued" a bar about a mile from my place. There was nothing really wrong with it, it was popular but they were hoping to get a boost in patronage once it was on TV (same reason a lot of places try and get Guy Fieri to highlight their restaurants). Taffer redecorated the place and tried to take a no-frills, come as you are beer drinkers sports bar with deep fried appetizers and sandwiches and turn it into an upscale eatery. He also invented a storyline about the owner that wasn't true, or was certainly grossly exaggerated. The place held a watch party on the night it aired, and then the owner and staff spent the rest of the night making fun of it....The fake story lines, the over the top, fake excitement and "OMG" shock and screaming on the part of the staff when they saw the transformation (which they were forced to re-shoot about 5 times, because each time the "reveal" was done, the staff didn't act excited enough for the producers' liking).

By the time the episode aired, the place was back to the way it was. Some of the new (cheap looking) decor stayed, but much of the stuff Taffer removed was brought back, the original menu restored, and the higher-end, expensive "novelty" stuff that none of the patrons were interested in buying was short-lived. The place is still in business years later, still with the original look and theme they always had, even long before Taffer visited to 'rescue" the place. The one area that DID need attention and were always and still are disgusting - the restrooms, were never touched by Taffer.
