Kenny Rogers Vs. Fox 4, your thoughts

Ok, we've all had at least 12-15 hours to filter what happened last night at rangers warm up. Im curious about your opinions on the matter, in particular, do you think the media has become "too intrusive" in pursuing a story?

Before you go nuts and rip, my personal opinion on this matter is that Kenny Rogers overstepped the line when it came to his behavior.

He ought to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to fight...

(Scary that I remembered that many lyrics)

The media had every right to be there. It wasn't as if Mike Doocy was asking an intrusive question. Kenny's upset about his contract negotiations, and he decided to take it out on a couple of cameramen. That's deplorable behavior, and I hope MLB steps in and takes some drastic action. The photog has also said he would file criminal charges of assault.

When a member of the media is granted a credential to cover a sporting event, they are given a certain amount of access (be it press box, sideline, field pass, courtside, etc.). Most media members stay within that access. I don't find it "intrusive" that cameras are on the field during pre-game. I used to be a sports reporter and photographer, and I've never had a problem with an athlete telling me to "get that camera out of (his) face." Why? I'm supposed to be there, and he knows it.

Kenny Rogers, at the very least, should be given his unconditional release by the Rangers. Let's see Scott Boras try and get market value for his client if that happens. However, my guess is the Rangers will probably give him a slap on the wrist (after all, he is #2 in the league in ERA). That's why MLB needs to step in and set an example.
______________

He just "dropped in to see what condition is condition is in". He was upset that "Lucille" left him, and got pee'oed when it was suggested he was a "coward of the county", so he took it out on the media. His "roasted chicken outlets"are not doing too good either.

Haha thinker ;)

Naw, to what KERAlumn said, the media are there on the field,in the clubhouse or lockeroom to cover the team . I would say about 9 times out of ten in these situations, the media are respectful when asked to leave a personal player or coach alone. But, I have also seen a few sports reporters(TV,Radio,Print) get a "little too personal" with their questioning of players and coaches as well. Im not defending KR for his actions, but when you poke a bear with a stick you're eventually going to get mauled. Thats what I think happened in this situation, KR was pushed by a reporter (doocy, in his usual smarmy-a$$ed manner)and then took out his frustration on the nearest viable targets (two unfortunate photogs).

If he is not fined and suspended, there is something very wrong.

Haven't we played this "I'm too good for this town" game once already with him?

Or maybe its another Kenny Rogers that I'm thinking of...

Perhaps Ruby took her love to town one time too many.

Being #2 or even #1 era doesn't give Rogers or any other overpaid player the right to assault (or engage in disorderly conduct against)another person. If Rogers isn't happy with his contract negotiations let him assault his agent or attorney then beat up on himself.

If the Tarrant County District Attorney's office hasn't yet requested a copy of the taped incident, it should do so at the first opportunity.

Valid points. But while the sequence of events leading up to the incident against the camera men is known, there's no justifying what Rogers did. Sounds as if he would have better expended his effort by venting his anger against Doocy.

He could write about his failing chicken shacks and win a pullet surprise. Apologies to Joseph Pulitzer.

I agree on that...But when provoked, people dont think. They'll go for the nearest target and attack

It was SHE who looked at HIM and said. "For God's sake, turn around."

Actually, he probably knows he's about to be gone and was thinking, "We've Got Tonight, Who Needs Tomorrow?" and decided to slug a photog.

Of course, if it was between him and Doocy, it could be the result of what happens "Every Time Two Fools Collide".

All I know is is that I was there and the Fox 4 sports guy (Doocy) and his camera guy, the one who faked his injuries and milked his "injury" all the way onto a backboard, did say some unkind things to Rogers. Of course this does not excuse Rogers, but then again if you heard what I heard, or had those same things said to you, then maybe you would have done the same things.

Rogers deserves to be punished, but only because he was around cameras and mics when he went haywire.

Also, Dale Hansen said Rogers should be gone from the team for this. Dale is a *bleeping* fool who just shoots his mouth off more than others. OF course he works for Belo(w), but that is another story. Case in point: Dale actually said on air that Rogers used words after shoving the second camera guy (aka the faker) that would make Dennis Miller and Chris Rock blush. This is absolutely untrue. I heard Rogers say, "G-Dammit!" I have also heard Miller and Rock say that word and more while watching them on HBO. Obviously Dale cannot comprehend what is said. Dale just lives for the moment.

As for a punishment, 10 games, $50K fine, and a personal, in private, apology to the cameraman who faked his injuries.

I don't know how much they have to do with it, but KDFW-4 and sister station KDFI-27 share the over-the-air TV schedule of Texas Rangers' games (with most broadcast-TV games on KDFI and a handful on KDFW), while Fox Sports Southwest has the cable rights for the team. Perhaps as local rightsholders, KDFW/KDFI and FSSW would have more "access" to the team than other local television news/sports departments would.

Well, if it did happen in that manner...id like to hear or see that video. In fact, would you have this txfotog and can you upload it to the net??

There are times when the media is wrong and then there are times when the player is wrong. In this case, Kenny Rogers is wrong. He took out his contract negotiation and his broken hand woes out on the media and the KDFW photog, in general. That is assult and it doesn't matter if the photog was actually hurt or not. Rogers was wrong and he should have to pay just as if he were you or I doing the exact same thing. He should have to pay for the cameras he damaged as well as punitive damages.

He should be suspended through for 30 days and should be fined a significant amount. I'd also make him do some anger management and maybe some work for MLB Charities.

The athletes have their jobs to do, and they need to realize (and most of them do), that the media has their job to do. Most of them do it and they do it the right way. Doocy is great and he has a great reputation. I can't see him provoking Kenny Rogers.

Kenny Rogers also chokes in the big games. I'm a Mets fan, and I remember "Ball-4" against Atlanta in '99 that lost us a chance to play in the World Series. He always pitches well in games where there is no pressure, but you put him into the big game situations, and it is choke city.
______________
