That's the lowdown according to Philpot at the FWS-T. Why in the heck did they keep the horrid married couple in the morning? I think a great thing would be they argue so badly during the show they break up live...

Ken Barnett will end up somewhere; hopefully in the D/FW market.

My crystal ball says KLUV, mid days. Maybe PM drive?

Not likely. Infinity's local brass are too insecure to bring back anyone with a true KVIL blood line. The only reason Jody Dean remains is because he was shoved down KJ's and Brinkman's throats. This week's re-imaging of KVIL was a signal that Infinity no longer wants a living reminder of the massive branding capital it has squandered.

My favorite KVIL moment? When a national television audience watched as Judge Ito spent an entire day drinking from a KVIL mug during the OJ trial.

These days KVIL's management blushes with pride when they are the first out of the gate with Christmas music. That says it all, no?

That's the mentality of the suits. They haven't a clue as to what's the best move in either general business principles or, more certainly, in broadcasting. There's no better proof of the ineptness in play than keeping the useless Gene and Julie bookends and giving Ken Barnett the boot. Ego (we know best, you know nothing), arrogance (we're in charge here), and
igmorance (huh?)--a dangerous combination.

I said before,Infinity has come down with case of Clear Channel disease. They have made the stupidest of decisions at KVIL and KLUV in their hirings of late, and their cuts. KLUV posted some great numbers lately,so instead of maintaining the course, its time to gut the staff. KVIL's Gene and Julie is their version of Pugs and Kelly -LITE. Why they stay on is a mystery and it's a decision that only a non-caring programming official would make. The Hoopla of KVIL changing is no change at all except its website. Slap a different tag on it ,call it new, keep the low performers and bring in an extra warm body, plus cut the veterans who know what the hell to do in order to save costs and show a profit that is the NEW LITE KVIL. It will live up to its logo as LITE. LITE weight decisions made in New York not Dallas, are the uninspired decisions doomed to fail time and time again. From the folks who gutted WCBS we present KVIL. Misery loves company .That is CBS's new logo. CBS had a split stock and diminished any common sense in the process.

Ken will return; Chuck will retire.

I will never understand the beancounters and program directors. Although Chuck would brag to us how he "turfed" so and so; I wonder if he saw his own turfing coming. Now he will have the time to visit his grandkids, visits to Karen Carpenter's final resting place in Thousand Oaks, California and just generally enjoying life sans microphone.

I don't know Chuck, but I share his love for
Karen Carpenter. She was one in a million!

Misery not only loves but also demands company. And CBS delivered.

On Ponder Princes's not understanding the decisions by bean counters and program directors, neither do I. Maybe it's because those who count the beans and direct the programming are so inept, out of their element, and, in general, just not suited to be part of the broadcast industry, or any other industry. There are openings in the next class at the bus driving academy--although I for one wouldn't want to ride on any bus those jokers were driving.

Off subject a little, what's up with Karen's "new" final resting place? Last time I was out in California, she and parents Agnes and Harold were interred at Forest Lawn-Cypress in a beautiful, enclosed mausoleum. Did Richard have her moved, or what? The parents, too? Why? Glad I took photos, I guess. I met Richard's mechanic on the same trip and got to explore Richard's massive car collection, including Karen's last car, a brown Mercedes 450SL with "KAREN C" on the plates (if I remember correctly.) Richard kept nearly every family car and has them stored in nearby Downey. In fact, most of the cars used in 1989's "The Karen Carpenter Story" were the originals.

Re: Ken will return; Chuck will retire.

Bean counters, administrators, program directors, upper management, et al...they're in charge of enforcing stupid rules that come from above them.

This has absolutely nothing to do with this topic but sort of...years ago my sister was top brass at a Dallas company and she asked me to do some work for her. I entered the office and saw my sweet baby sister turn into one of the most horrid people I had ever seen. All the people walked on eggshells around her...some moments she was kind, but mostly she was a you know what. I literally saw two women crying after one of her rants against them. I went into her office and said don't you see what you are doing to these people; you are making them hate you...she was aware of it but says it was all a game, it's the way things are done in her business, she couldn't get where she wanted w/o being this way...blah blah blah...After three days of this I told her off in front of the whole office; saying I wouldn't work for such a person and I didn't care if she was my sister; she is a first class b***h and deserved no respect...

Did it do any good? Not really. I hear everyone in the office had smiles on their faces but that she went back to ranting them after I walked out. She has calmed down some with age...but is still the same way at work...it's all a game she says!

Re: Karen Carpenter

In 2003 Richard Carpenter had a huge new private family crypt constructed in Texas and in December 2003, he moved his parents and Karen to a private family crypt at Pierce Brothers, Westlake Village, California (near Thousand Oaks where Richard and his wife/cousin live with their 5 children). You can find photos of it here.

His reason was that he wanted a bigger family crypt so that when it was his time to die; there would be room for his family.

Richard moved to Thousand Oaks from Downey several years ago and I hear lives in a private gated community, but that his house is exactly like the one he lived in Downey. The house that Mom/Dad lived in and the one that Karen died in was sold in the late 90's. My guess is he wanted more privacy. He still performs occasionally at the Karen and Richard Carpenter Theater at Cal State/Long Beach. He performs with his children and I hear his son is very talented. Watch for the name Collin Carpenter in a few years...

Re: Karen Carpenter

Thanks! I had no idea. Here's what I saw the last time (mother Agnes is not listed on this photo, but is in mine):

I find it quite amusing everyone's "off" speculatives on here. (as usual) LOL
