Umm..Puget Sound Broadcasting...same as its been for a long time

, as in format
Umm...Country, same as it has always been.

Did you perhaps find a copy of their 6/2 "Minor Change" application? Dude, its just a filing for a change in ERP. I see nothing about ownership, etc.

I'm hesitant to spread rumors, but I have heard that they're being sold and going Spanish.

Yes it is true. They were sold to Bustos Media who owns KDDS 1210 AM and will flip KAYO to Spanish La Grand D format on Wednesday June 8th. They got an LMA agreement with Puget Sound Broadcasting.

If this is true, will this once and for all shut up the prognosticators here who every time a station has a bad book predicts it will flip to country?

I'm not a country fan, but I'd be interested in hearing from those who listened to KAYO what you feel they could have done better. Or did KMPS have such a lion's share of loyalty and a lock on promotions that it was impossible for another country station to compete?

I am still somewhat confused by the number of Spanish-speaking stations in this market. LA/Southern Cal I can see given the high immigrant influence; now I think this puts us at three to five Spanish-language stations? I am, apparently, naive about why so many signals on the dial making this switch when I would expect at least ONE of our ethnic-focused signals to be serving one of the Asian populations (perhaps that is too fragmented and one effort would only serve a small sub-section, e.g. Korean, Japanese, etc.)??? Maybe it's the same thing that I don't get about so many religious stations that all seem to be serving Christian population(s) when we have a large Jewish community -- and so forth. Are these "other" (for lack of a better generic handle) populations just not large enough to sustain a full-time communications service; or does programming to niche groups not really make any sense...and may be better serviced via "block programming" on other existing specialty programming stations.

This is NOT a complaint -- just saying it's an observation where I clearly don't seem to "get it" at first glance???

There are 2 fulltime Korean language stations in the market.
The fastest-growing group in the U.S. is Hispanic.
In the past, immigrants learned English and assimilated into our society.

KAYO sounded very good; and they were doing well. But money talks, and Bustos has been spending lots of it for acquisitions since 2003.

KAYO is also on the move again. This time they plan a full Class C to approach Seattle from the southwest, encompassing the entire city limits within its 60dbu contour.

A lot of people around here "Sumner" listen to KAYO.

If this is in fact true, I know people who will be pretty upset by this.

Will this have any impact on KFMY, did they sell that station too?
Same building right?

Hope this is just a rumour. They are still playing up contests on their website. "KAYO'S FALL WEEKEND GETAWAY CRUISE" in september. heard this on air just now. Strange?

I am a white boy, honky,or cracker if you will, but you should see the looks I get when I pull into the gas station in Auburn blaring KDDS or KKMO, folks go WTF?

Just like when I blast KVRI 1600 or KRPI 1550 around Whatcom County. Sometimes, a little Bollywood is tandoori for the soul. It's a big world and we ain't got much time in life. So it's always cool to go off the beaten path.....

Aw crud, Larry....now I KNOW I shouldn't have slept through high school Spanish. Like Calculus and everything else of that era I had the "when I will ever need to use THIS" thing going....so all I was able to pick out was "My Denim underwear tastes like a Mango." Was I even CLOSE???

"Mi gusto de la ropa interior del denim tiene gusto de un mango" Now THERE'S an icebreaker for your next encounter with a young hot Latina chick....

Well, when you live and work with Spanish speaking people in a place like Mount Vernon, Spanish becomes a second language automatically. It has to. Half the people in your life here speak Spanish. And face it folks, the radio is also becoming bilingual.

But for those who's Spanish is still limited to the drive-thru menu of Taco Bell, here's the English translation of what I originally posted:

It's sad that Bustos Media doesn't buy KAPS up here in Mount Vernon. The Hispanic community, while they love KSVR's Spanish daytime programming, they're totally lost by all the indie music nightly.

While The Puget Sound needs a full time Spanish FM station, I just think it is strange to put one somewhere like Aberdeen when the biggest audience for Spanish radio is the Skagit Valley and most of Northwest Washington.

My $2.00.......

99.3 is not "somewhere like Aberdeen". It's a rimshot to Seattle with 60kw coming soon...

I too am a "skinny white boy". I regularly stop in an Indian run business here in Seattle where they are blasting that station and find myself lingering a little while extra just to listen to it a bit...
