I figured it was time to retire the old desktop and go with something a little more compact in size. Now, I'll be able to free up some table space.<P ID="signature">______________

I've always found laptops difficult to type on...between the flat "rubbery" feeling keys and the fact that the keyboard is set back from the front they just seem awkward to me (not to mention the cramped layout). The portability is nice, but not something I'd want to use every day.

And remember when laptop computers used to be called "notebook" computers? Now that they're all crazy about HUGE-ass displays, ranging from 15 to 17 inches, they're not even close to being notebook-size anymore. My dad's old 486 laptop had a footprint of exactly 8.5 by 11 inches -- that's true notebook size. Plus it had a keyboard you could actually type on!

You got it backwards. Laptops preceded notebooks.

I had a 286 laptop that was big enough for two laps. The
only case I could find big enough for it was barely big enough.
It was a struggle to get it in. Of course, that's before the
notebook term was coined ('91). They weren't even shaped like
notebooks. The screen hinged up from the middle, not the end.
(No, I'm not talking about the lunchbox or suitcase form
factors -- or the pizza boxes. Those were from the 80s!)
